- even if they just said "let's make a movie with only references to YTP-related memes" they'd still need to acquire rights to use the various IPs these memes came from. no one would watch such a movie if it just had original characters jittering funnily and uttering "i wonder what's for dinner" or "i'm filling my water with X", you'd need king harkinian and the volvic volcano to do that
"Pixels" went through the trouble of getting licenses for old arcade games, but that movie's entire point was to cash in on nostalgia (alongside coasting on adam sandler's marketability). as you noted, no one would've watched a movie based on an internet fad in 2010, so the odds were stacked against this particular concept.
