On March 31st, 2021, shortly after completion of his role in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, police were called to investigate a house full of teenagers that agreed to hide Mario from persecution. Mario was wanted for operating a plumbing business for decades without a license and large scale tax evasion. Mario was eventually discovered and taken away in hand cuffs. Mario was sentenced to death and was publicly executed later that same day to the shock of many. While the world was mourning, some thought things were not right. Some suspected foul play might have been involved. A conspiracy theory started making the rounds that Yoshi, likely as revenge for the physical abuse years prior, tipped off the police of Mario's location and even framed him for tax evasion due to similar allegations levied towards himself in the past. However, Yoshi fled the country soon after Mario's death and his current whereabouts are unknown, so the real truth may never be revealed.
