This appears to be another prequel, so hopefully it is. Also, so far all of the nightmare animatronics appear to be versions of the original five.

I am shocked. We have lost a great man who played a big part in my childhood and stayed with the company I loved until the very end. RIP Iwata. You will not be forgotten.

To be fair all of his spinning moves do call back to his series at least. It likely also saved time when developing his moveset back in the Brawl days. EDIT: Greninja'd. But Pit's the "special one."
