Hard to say. I liked both. Subspace Emissary, I found pretty fun, despite the generic enemies. World of Light is also fun, but I wish it had more to do than just fighting.
I honestly wish they would have just expanded on Melee's Adventure Mode in Ultimate, and included side-scrolling levels...
Yeah, I've been playing the series since the very first one in 1999. After seeing that commercial, I begged my mom to go out and rent me the game (this was before I got to own a lot of games).
Kind of like how every Sonic game has a Green Hill Zone now? I don't mind that, since they usually tend to have their own twist in each game anyway. I do on the Koopaling fights though. I would like to see more boss fights than just them, Bowser and Bowser Jr.. Bring back the likes of Petey...
I don't think they should change the gameplay. Why change something that works and is the tried and true formula? I'm all for some changes, but I would rather they not change the core gameplay.
They could, but I don't know what difference it'll make. The 2D Mario formula has pretty much been perfected at the point. I think that's the main reason the games have that "samey" feeling. Kind of like the Kirby games we get now.
Well, the main problem people seemed to have with the games were that they were all too closely released to each other. It wasn't until the announcement of NSMB2 and NMSBU being released in the same year that the series got the reputation for being "lazy".
I have three games in March to get. Dead or Alive 6, Devil May Cry V and Yoshi's Crafted World. And then in April, there's Mortal Kombat 11. I don't know how I'm going to afford all this.
I hope so. I know people were getting sick of the NSMB series, but come on, it's now been over 6 years since the last one proper.
Since NSMBU Deluxe is just a port, I would say there's a possibility for one on the Switch.
Yeah, I guess you can make the case that each game shouldn't cost $60 (I don't even like having to pay $60 for games in the first place). But even then, NSMBU was the only one that actually costed $60 at release, while NSMB1 was $35, NSMB Wii was $50 (still close to $60 though) and NSMB2 was...
Yeah, all the NSMB games brought at least a couple things to the table. When people say the series never changes, they are over-exaggerating. That's one of the exact reasons I find the NSMB series to be underrated.
You have a point about the levels generally not being unique from each other in the NSMB games, but at least all the Worlds in those games are different and unique.
It's not like these games are totally devoid of innovation. Me and another user has already pointed out the innovative aspects...
Yeah, I see what you mean about many of the other Mario games being revolutionary, but you really can't expect every single game in the series to be revolutionary. Look at the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2. It is very similar to the first game, but just much harder. I would argue that the first...
I can see what you mean there regarding all the games being very similar to each other. But really, how often do games change from game to game to the extent that SMB1-3 and World did? Not very often. Isn't calling the whole NSMB series "garbage" a little harsh?
Include an option between the play style of Mario Party 1-8 and the modern games, so that fans of either play style can be happy. The series really needs an online mode too.
If anything, it was more like SMB1 than SMB3. But as I said, the NSMB games still had noticeable differences and tweaks. You have ground pounds, new power-ups, improved controls, among some other things. There's only so much you can change, really, so what do you expect?
Is the New Super Mario Bros. series underrated?
I think so, since they just don't get enough credit. They aren't as positively received as the original 2D games or the 3D games. In fact, they tend to get more hate compared to those games. Some people tend to say that they are too similar to the...
Maybe there's a few things dull about the game, but if you ask me, the good outweighs the bad for this game. I quite like some of the stages in the game.
I have this, and while it's no Mega Man, it's really not as bad as people say. I feel that more should give the game a fair chance and stop jumping on the hate bandwagon, just because it's the cool thing to do.
The Wii and DS era, mainly for Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. But New Super Mario Bros. (both DS and Wii), Mario Kart Wii, Mario Party 8 and Mario Super Sluggers are pretty enjoyable too.
Wow, I got quite the welcome wagon here. Thanks everyone.
I don't see myself becoming a regular poster, but I should be posting sometimes here and there.
Out of those, I would probably like to see Cherry Road and Waluigi's Hotel the most. The Mario Kart series is lacking in a hotel course, and it could use one.
I'm a new member who just joined today, and it's sad to see a fellow forum user pass away just before I join. So, naturally, I don't know Walkazo, and never will get to know her, but I hope she rests in peace.
This is Kokoro. I'm a longtime Mario fan, and have been playing his games since the early 90's. I've known about this forum for sometime, but I never got around to joining it, until just today.
