I personally don't think so. In MKWii I could still get more points than anyone else if I was #1 the whole race but ended #5 because of a blue shell, while in MK7 that means I'm just outta luck and get the standard amount of #5 points.

After you left I joined my brother and we kept getting Metal Mario's. And after that we kept getting Yoshi's (and my brother was a yoshi). First grand prix I did: Yoshi and Metal Mario were the leading CPU's. So I think I may have finally found a correlation with who's the best CPU in-game.

That's what you noticed about Opal? The thing I noticed was her disapproving of Rarity's choices, tapping Twilight's dress during the song for instance (as in "go make the dress"). :P Also, Opal is a cat, and a lot of cats care for no one but their owner.

Super Mario Kart is a fucking SNES game. I could understand why a SNES game couldn't properly randomize. But for a 3DS game I don't see how hard it is to properly randomize a character, rather than to pick Bowser to be the lead every time.
