Re: Nintendo Direct Thread
My impressions:
Slippy's uncle Grippy deserves to be playable in the next Smash Bros. game.
Kirby with mechs could easily be GOTY.
Marth in Monster Hunter was very unexpected, and neat.
Extremely apprehensive about Colour Splash. I remember hearing the rumours of...
After somewhat of an absence from them, I have been getting back into Mario games. Most of my gaming time this week was spent 100%ing Mario 64 for the first time (took me long enough!). The last game I played was Mario & Wario on my modded SNES. :mario:
Thanks for the info. Having grown up accustomed to the rather uninspired cover Wipeout (in both its N64 and PS versions) had in its North American incarnation, I had no idea the PAL version used this badassery:
I have not frequented this forum in quite some time (hello from 2008), but I was recently informed that Danny died and had to pop in to show my respect. His was a great portrayal and on some cosmic level, it's sad to see him go just as the Year of Luigi comes to a close. Goodnight sweet prince...
I just now saw this on the main page and it shocked me. That guy was the definitive non-Martinet Mario, the quintessence of a simpler era in mass-market videogaming. Rest in peace, d00de - until next time, Do the Mario.
When I first played TTYD, I avoided most of the enemies; then on my second replay, I fought 'em all (which is now my standard rule for initial playthroughs in RPGs); then on my third, I just, ya know, fought some and didn't fight others. And I do think I tried to win a few battles with my feet...
I think I got a bunch at the same time, among 'em were a Talespin game and some Tiny Toon Adventures one. The only one I still have is Super Mario Land, which was my first Mario game.
Wow, that was... unexpected. With Francis and 9-Volt, though, Nintendo's sure been recognizing nerd cult recently, though, so it's not too WHOOOOOAAAA, but... This is weird. I may get.
:posh: is DEFINITELY the real hero because :posh: is a hero and :posh: is :posh: . But in seriousness, I can see :yoshi: .
And on a related subject, I once made a fan game where a Paratroopa tried to save Mario's life from a :lakitu: and phailed epically in doing so.
LOL, Rickroll'd.
Well, I'm excited about this game; Wario Land's fun. I didn't know there were going to be anime cutscenes till now... Hopefully they'll be better than the handful of Mega Man ones there are. At least voice acting will be definite and not so awkward, being so established...
Um... I always thought of Dedede as a penguin, but never really understood that... Although he was on an iceberg in Kirby's Dream Land 3, right? (Er, I think I read that somewhere...) And I know he dresses like Santa Claus, so maybe he is ice-ish. :P
And what's all this stuff about April...
A new Mario movie, if nothing like the old one (which I have not seen), would probably be cool. I'd like a whatever it is you call hand-drawn animation'ed one (maybe even based on the Super Show), although I guess that would be pretty impossible in our current world. If it was computer animated...
I've read very little of this topic as to avoid picking up spoilers (for I have not yet played Super Mario Galaxy... or at least I don't think so), but I would say that Galaxy elements might appear again. Super Mario Sunshine elements became so popular, and maybe Super Mario 64 ones (well, maybe...
The Wii is cool, but I actually might be somewhat partial to my GameCube. GameCube was a tad more normal (which can be a good thing), and I think it might have been one of the first consoles for me to own after getting really into Mario. (Maybe even my very first Nintendo system, aside from...
Bowser must weigh a lot. I don't know if he's overweight, but in at least some games, he's, like, huge and stuff. Plus, you might be able to think of him as muscular, which might add to his weight.
I think the RPGs are canonical. I'm stating no reason. It's just a belief I currently hold. I may be able to be moved from it. I don't know if it's HUGELY strong. But I do view the RPGs as canonical. I speak in short, quick sentences.
Mr. L was cool for a one-time thing (well... I might accept him as a rare thing if he ever reappears), but I prefer Luigi for games overall. It be kinda weird to have him brainwashed and evil all the time.
Luigi might just be neglected in the sense that he isn't the main character, and he was given the role of second banana. He probably is one of the best known Mario characters other than Mario himself (hey, maybe even THE best known character aside from Mario), he's just the sidekick. Perhaps...
Could I say the early ones? (Like Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. and stuff.) I've never owned and (I think) only scarcely played a Country or Land game, and while I have been tempted... I don't know. It seems like they're just too different from the Mario series to me.
My third cousin. Seriously.
But back on topic... The whole carpenter thing makes sense with Donkey Kong, what with its construction site theme. And Mario was apparently only called Jumpman in the Japanese version of Donkey Kong, although I've actually seen a DK machine that calls him Jumpman...
He's actually right, or so says our user LinkTheLefty, who seems to have a wide knowledge of Japanese Mario games. I like to think of the whole Birdo-is-male things as retconned in the Western translations, though.
I believe he meant that he was the first user to go through a complete cycle of being a patroller, then a system operator, then a bureaucrat. The Great Gonzo's been everywhere. :P
