Actually, I'm pretty sure Sakurai wants this game to have a lot of emphasis on single-player, as well as multi-player; he wanted to do the same with Melee, but Shigeru Miyamoto pressured him to do otherwise and focus more on multi-player.

I liked the early seasons of Rugrats and the first movie. The newer episodes, All-Grown Up, etc. I don't really like all that much.

Yes, but alot of other elements from Super Mario Sunshine (Delphino Island, Piantas, Shine Sprites, etc.) have appeared in later games, like the sports, party and kart ones. Virtually nothing from an RPG has appeared in a non-RPG game (unless you count Super Smash Bros. Melee).
