I do like Koopalings story in early M&L, however there are several issues with them.
One is they're usually considered secondary to the top tier main cast in general games beside certain mainline (and I have to clarify I don't like it personally, since I would also like Koopalings in more...
Yep, not a fresh topic today, definitely, but this rat in the room keeps getting fatter and fatter whenever a new RPG title is announced.
Back to the oldschool discussion.... we can agree about Waluigi not getting any spotlight because Nintendo obviously overlook him. But when it comes to some...
But that said I don't think those would be the reasons if she's indeed not in the upcoming game.
One is, I believe she can easily get proper positive development if the writers want too. So the problem for past M&L games was, she didn't have a very proper own story arc for people to believe...
Not necessarily saying I'm Starlow fans, but I'd still point out M&L used to have some continuity that Paper series and others don't necessarily have. This is a nice detail loved by its old fans.
The problem is, if Nintendo want M&L series to go with the Paper routine (in terms of independent...
By the fact only one newcomer announced so far and the rest are veterans?
I respect people who love the veterans, but my motto is always that each Mario allstars roster needs some unique spice or landmark to have its own place for this franchise.
Well back to my old post, I think the...
Origami King wasn't far tho.
Yeah I agree we need a new one this year, but with Nintendo Switch closing in years, I don't think two new titles on this platform is enough.
I know saying this would likely bother fans who really want its return, but I cannot say I want M&L to return consider 75% of the main cast never had proper screentime in the whole Mario RPG lineup. (At least so far as there is no further info about having a thid partner this round).
I...
I know it's not a surprise consider how recent rosters turn out, but this roster is objectively playing safe and Ninji isn't a . I do look forward to the online gameplay but that's it.
Okay proper time to bump/
I say the mobile version is better than nothing so I didn't put it in the top list here.
I like how the mobile version excuted, and I feel like it can also do a direct console version of the same mobile title and add the major missing characters like Birdo and Pauline...
Uhr too many signs to tell the difference.
1) If Tour is the successor it would make zero sense to port its contents to MK8 which is backfoward. We should instead just keep Tour on its track and then port its entire game to home console platform instead,
2) The bigger problem is excluding...
I say this more because of the routine of past Mario games: most handheld version of the home console releases did not have the same budget and input.
But sure you can say as independent project, we do have M&L titles as well as Fire Emblem for 3DS, so there is no reason for Sticker Star to...
I remember I didn't have high expectation knowing it wasn't a major title from the start, like the previous three Paper titles and it was the first and only handheld entry, I think it's overall performance was okay. On the other hand, Color Splash would just be much more underwhelming since it...
Duh, if you use that example, we're supposed to get a new DKC game now as a counterpart to Tears of the Kingdom as well as Mario's Wonder.
The general problem should be that some regular titles do not get a proper release cycle time to satisfy fans. I don't think general fans would agree to...
Remake isn't new game, tho. With that logic, Wonder would had been considered totally unnecessary next to Maker 2 and UDX.
If you predict that Nintendo don't put big weigh on Mario RPGs, fine, Personally I believe that RPGs have the potential to gain bigger frequency than other genre in Mario...
You can either predict what's the next new game announcement, or speculate all possiblities within the current console era.
So starting with sport/party spin-offs: the current game lineup on Nintendo Switch has covered most sport subjects from past consoles. The only big one remaining at this...
I think it's more about what the character's general purpose for. Regarding to the main topic, obviously most RPG characters have their purposes that relate to their original stories, altho arguably we do have other main cast who relates to a story so it's technically possible to them out of...
I mean that'd echo my point of whether it has the need to continue.
Either way, I think it can of course start a brand new theme or manage to have multiple focuses beside Mario bros. Bowser was the focus in third title and side stories do give some different viewpoints. We just want that spirit...
True. Aside from core mainline, many other different feature games beside sport /party, like Peach's Showtime, Luigi's Mansion and Treasure Tracker were all able to pull out original contents. For unknown weird reason, previous RPGs seem to fail to devote to an original theme for an independent...
We know that Mario series somehow started a strict guideline for original contents in non-mainline games after WiiU era:
*OCs for each game are strictly allowed.
*Species individual uniqueness and diversity are also forbidden: it's hard to find an original minor Toad and Koopa character nowaday...
I mean that's why I add definition in the top.
I like the pre-built human and wouln't mind Nintendo to promote them, but tbh Mario human are saturated and some are still underused, so I can understand why NIntendo don't push more.
I think both human and non-human are fine. What Mario main...
Then the problem would be it's hard to answer to the main post which needs to fulfill the criteria for a main cast.
Not that parody characters don't exist, but they're few, and you need to fill in a real original character content even if the skin is a historical figure parody. If you cannot...
Wiki told me that his first game isn't a spin-off.
I don't think Nintendo have the right to make use of him as he doesn't belong to them.
By narrow definition, Nintendo don't count him as a Marioverse member so he is a guest to Mario just like Link and Isabelle.
Do you ever want an obscure character to join main cast because of the following reasons?
*This character has very unique traits that the current main cast severely lacks.
*It'd be fun to see him/her interact with every single current main cast.
*This character can provide a very unique moveset...
It's the reverse. When the insertion covers a good diversity, it can be a motive for people to know their background and get the real games eventually.
And the other problem is the restriction would definitely exclude some interesting picks from some other games.
In my own general review...
It's more about what perspective you're trying to apply, I think?
The RPG case above definitely means the loyal Mario RPG fans' view, not Nintendo's view when they tried to push Mario characters to casual players. I just say when it comes to mainline, they're more exposed and more functional...
I'm definitely with you about giving RPG characters some chance. I'm only speaking in Nintendo's logic that they tend to push mainline characters, so it's awful for none of the Nintendo Switch era characters ever appeared in a spinoff roster.
I agree that some RPG characters are popular enough...
Devotion to keeping all main cast to next game is okay. But for a new game you need to achive a higher bar as well. Otherwise that can just be called staying in the safe bubble.
I know several sport subjects did evolve with more creative system and better quality, but the samey rosters just...
Right now we don't really know Nintendo's next step. Most past known spinoff subjects have appeared on the current platform.
(Future Olympics' fate is not clear. There is Sluggers but it's destined to be all-stars roster if it happens on Nintendo Switch.)
Now until Nintendo Switch's end...
While I see your point. I think this is part of what I said about "trivial" and also seems not to be a very wise way to differentiate the canons. Even the Arcade DK to DKC canon change was a much bigger deal to Marioverse.
The major logic hole in this one is, the movie obviously didn't try to...
If they want to go with puzzle game route, they can try to make Peach have to do different transformations in a row to solve a complicated mystery.
My concern is if all you can do is playing one transform for each stage only, the whole game would be very linear and you don't get a second play...
Not knowing too many detailes yet, my major question is whether the transformations work like power-ups in SMB titles. Like,we know Peach mostly acts as a specific character in its respective scene. So can Mermaid Peach also fight in a kitchen or a dojo?
For their recent appearances, being doctors and drivers both don't really care about size difference so they're easier deals. Meanwhile in Football you need to make Baby Luigi jump and break Bowser's arm.
But sure I agree babies should be allowed to try more new subjects, so I'd love to ignore...
I don't think this is a proper way to explain. That basically says Waluigi didn't deserve to exist as he was created just for spin-offs.
Arguably, unlike Waluigi, babies are established facts from the history and they can just legally exist for prequel stories. Like Baby Funky also definitely...
Right now it's kinda shocking to know that babies exactly made no main appearance in home console titles. At this point, common people still remember them via the recently shut down Doctor World, the topselling Kart titles, and additionally the cameos from the 2023 animation movie
I think the...
I'm sure there are enough people to talk about which game characters are gonna be in the sequel, like this.
Vice versa, the movie also had some good re-arrangement and new settings.
Well I called that above already.
While Sonic franchise is indeed infamous for lots of media canons, they make better differences in each adaption, and the targeted teenage gamers also have better cognitive abilities to understand what's going on with the series history.
I think that approach isn't too likely. Given that Illumination and Nintendo cannot literally make multiple movies in the same pace with single games (more exactly, even Wrecking Crew and Mario vs Donkey were technically seperate games), I think it's wiser to tell stories by integration.
If the...
Seems kinda subjective to assume that majority can get it easily.
Also this topic means to discuss whether the holes can be filled. Not necessarily assuming that the movie version needs to be different in long future.
Maybe matters when new audience are easily confused by how the games look actually different.
Also as I said
Adaption can be encouraged, but definitely depends on how it works out. We do already have many plotholes in early canon that needs to be filled.
Such as, if they say Stanley works as...
That'd kinda miss the point to actually use references from past media and games which are mostly canonical, since there are not quite many new settings from the movie story.
It's safe to say the plotholes are mostly caused by the reconstruction of canon, not from the new story and settings...
It's been long time since I post anything here. I know I miss the train for quite long time, but I'd be glad if it still brings some discussion and speculation.
We know the movie didn't do exactly the same with regular game canon. Some are for proper adaption, while some seem to not be for same...
Exactly following all historical references, the first movie would have to introduce Pauline and Stanley (who's a big waste since he can easily fits in as a Brooklyn passerby).
So since the movie project caters to Nintendo's current canon, they have to acknowledge Wart first. And I don't think...
