I want to defeat Elder Princess shroob.

The first time I tried I didn't have nearly enough provisions to defeat her, so after a while I just gave up and started a new save file and played through the game with much better attributes and items before I got to the end of the game.

Copy Flower

First use the Mix Flower to destroy all her parts. Then use the copy flower to hit her weak spot when her crown stops glowing.
 
What he said. That badge that gives you infinite bros items helps.
 
Yeah, the Ulti-Free Badge really helps.
