2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs

Thank you based god
It's that time of year again. A time of early-round chokes, rabid fanbases, overtime winners, mind-blowing missed calls and the beauty of the most unfair sport in the world, hockey, where the best team rarely wins. That's one of the things that's so great about it. All 16 teams going for the Stanley Cup have a legitimate shot at winning.

Use this thread to discuss your favorite teams, predictions for winners, and anything and everything about the games. Got tickets to any? Rooting on your favorite team from your couch? All of that belongs here!

Rooting for the Penguins - if they don't make it through, though, then I'll probably root for somebody like the Canucks.

Red Wings, naturally.

Though I don't really have the highest confidence in them winning the whole thing.

I think the Canucks have a legitimate shot at winning it. I might actually change my theme to support them.

Take a look at my home state.

Now back to me.

Now look at my home state.

Now back to me.

I am holding a jersey from my favorite hockey team.

Take a fucking guess whose it is.

The Devils are one of the most underrated teams, IMO. They've somehow completely flown under the radar.

Rooting for the Canucks and hoping Vancouver does not face another riot.

Also, Pittsburgh vs. Philadelphia? Interesting, but bad for PA, I guess.

I'm rooting for the Sharks of course, and rooting for the Flyers to win the east.

In the west, I don't have a problem with anyone except LA and Chicago, but the only teams in the east I like at all are Philly, Ottawa, Florida and Washington.

I'm alright with anyone if he Red Wings can't win it except the Blackhawks and the (sorry Palk) Penguins. I'm also not too fond of the possibility the Blues might win it but they're not nearly as bad as the Blackhawks winning it. I feel a similar way for the Preds though that will mean they had beat the Wings in the first round to get there.

And while I rooted for them against the Canucks last year, I don't want to see Boston repeat.

So in one day we had bears, catfish, green men, a three-goal comeback with an OT winner, penalties galore, raucous crowds and an overall great day of games.

And that was just Day 1.

Whoa what the

Philly scored four goals? After conceding three? Wow.

Also, Vancouver just can't lose at home. I hope they tie the series tomorrow.

As much as I hate seeing the Penguins lose, I give the Flyers a lot of credit. They fought hard.

Also, I'm really surprised about the Canucks losing. Like P_Y said, hoping they can tie the series tomorrow.

The Canucks looked undisciplined and the damage taken on them by their injuries showed pretty clearly.

That'll be rememebered every time the team goes to play in the playoffs.

So the Rangers took game 1, 4-2. The Rangers held a 1-0 lead for a while and Ottawa was making a nice push before the Rangers blew it open to go up 4-0. Henrik Lundqvist was great in net.

Boston won 1-0 on an OT goal from Chris Kelly. Braden Holtby, Capitals third-string goalie, and Boston's Tim Thomas both played great games.

Martin Havlat scored his second goal at 3:34 of the second overtime and the Sharks topped the Blues, 3-2. Patrik Berglund scored twice for St. Louis. Antti Niemi made 40 saves for the Sharks and Andrew Desjardins scored the other goal, the tying goal in the late minutes of the third period. Jaroslav Halak stopped 31 of 34 for the Blues.

That's good of the Sharks. If the Wings are bounced out to the Predators or next round (As I don't think the Wings and Sharks can possibly meet until the Conference Championships based on the seeding unless the Blues, Canucks, Coyotes all lose and the Wings beating the Predators, I wouldn't mind seeing the Sharks win the Cup this year. Though if the Wings and Sharks do end up meeting eachother once again, I might not feel the same way if the Sharks beat them the 3rd year in a row...)

Chicago tied the game with just 15 seconds to go, but Martin Hanzal won the game in overtime for Phoenix on a tip in front of the net, thus ending a day where three of four games went to overtime.

That's even better then the Sharks win 8)

Also I'm a bit late on this but nice of the Flyers to pull out a win against the Pens down 3-0. Seems like they've brought back that spirit that led their comeback against the Bruins a few years back.

They're also a much deeper team.

Tomorrow (or today if you're in the central or eastern time zones) should be entertaining. The completely underrated Devils take on the Panthers, and the three series that play Game 2 have a lot of bad blood and scores to settle.

How the hell did Weber not get suspended?

Double post to update:

The Devils take Game 1, 3-2. New Jersey took a 3-0 lead in the first period on 26 shots in the opening 20 minutes. Despite some excellent play by Jose Theodore, and second-period goals by Sean Bergenheim and Kris Versteeg, the Devils held the Cats off to win 3-2.

In other ongoing actions, the Flyers and Penguins are tied at 4 after two wild periods. The Penguins scored in the opening and closing 20 seconds of the first period to take a 3-1 lead, but the Flyers tied the game at 3 and then Sean Couturier retied it at 4 with just 2.8 left in the second.

Detroit leads Nashville 3-1 after two periods.
