Hey guys. So there's a problem with my laptop. Lately, it has been randomly switching itself off whenever I'm in the middle of something. And it refuses to turn back on unless I take the battery out and put it back in again. The laptop isn't even a year old. It might be faulty, but I'm not much of a tech person so I don't know what's wrong, but I'm wondering if anyone here does.

Have you downloaded a virus or a bad batch file?

I do have virus protection installed, and I scan regularly. What do you mean by bad batch file exactly?

Pointing out that having virus protection does not guarantee you to be free of viruses, but I'll take your word for it that your PC is uncontaminated.

Oh, batch files do many things and one of them is shutting down your computer without pressing a button or clicking on "shut down". I'm not sure if that's the case with a bad batch file, since they're like viruses and bad ones are just the pranks.

Maybe it's overheating?

That's probably it. Do you think there's anything I can do, or does it need to be fixed?

When did this start happening and was this right after a Windows Update? (Assuming it's a Windows laptop)

It started happening a few weeks ago. And nah it wasn't after a Windows update. I'm running Windows 7, which was the OS which came with the laptop.

There's some solutions there that could solve your problem

It's overheating for sure.
Virusses, Batch files, and Windows Updates have absolutely nothing to do with a PC that doesn't boot with a battery in it.

Mine overheats the same way on occasion. The best thing to do (From what I've tried) is to leave it until it's cooled down. Taking the battery off and on probably doesn't give it enough time to cool down.

Although I'm no expert, this is just what I've done. It only happens on rare occasions now.

Oops, I read his post too quickly. I thought his laptop was restarting unexpectedly, which I had happen to me a couple times.
