Mario's Likeness in other Countries

Arima

Goomba
I was just wondering...
When Mario or another Marioverse Character's Likeness is used with or without permission in another country... what would that be defined as and where exactly would that fit in the Mario Wiki?

Anyways, here are a few examples:

This is Mr. Do-It-Yourself from the Philippines.

And this is Marco Pasta.

Do these infringe copyright or are they used with permission?

If it's used with permission, then it constitutes as a Mario reference

If not, we can just ignore it

Many countries like the ones in Asia are very lax about Copyrights.
Which is the reason why you tend to frequently see Mario's likeness on common goods such as foodstuffs in those places.

Yeah, but, just like we don't mention rip-off games made in China that violate copyright in the wiki (you know there are several ripoffs coughMoleKartcoughsputter), we don't cover stuff that is used without Nintendo's permission. I understand that several other countries has different copyright laws, but still...

But why ignore it if the Similarity to a Marioverse Character is unmistakably close?

Well, these things fall in the same line as pirated games and fangames (which can evoke similarity in the original games), and we don't cover either in the wiki.

I understand that it's obviously illegal but I consider Mario-related plagiarism to be at least noteworthy enough to deserve an article of its own.

There's an interesting quality of fascination to be found in the shameless creativity that brings knockoff creations like Mr Do-It-Yourself into existence, or lack thereof in the case of Marco Pasta.

Mario is a Character who is known by the entire world.
It was an inevitability that his likeness and the likeness of other Marioverse Characters would be used without permission and that in turn has led to the creation of an extensive outcast culture of Marioverse knockoffs.
Why ignore them even though they are illegal? They were born from the Marioverse in an unofficial sense and are part of it even though they shouldn't be.

Please Excuse me.
I'm just rambling in a philosophical sense...

Well I didn't write those copyright laws
