What RPGs do you recommend I should play and how do I get into these RPG series?

9-Volt must be my video game counterpart.
I am not an expert with RPGs (and no, I am not saying that I am not good at them. I am saying I don't have a lot of experience with them) and pokemon mystery dungeon sort of turned me off of RPGs. I want to know what RPGs should I play. There are also some RPG series that I want to get into but I am not sure where to exactly start.

First off, I own a DS, 3DS, Wii and WiiU (however, there aren't any RPGs on WiiU yet)

Are there any RPGs on those systems that you recommend I should play. I am only looking for disc and card media games. No wiiware, dsiware or nintendo eshop games

Okay here are some RPG series I want to get into but don't know where to start. Also, the same thing that I said above applies to the games in the series

Fire Emblem
This series looks interesting but the fact that your members can die and won't ever come back bothers me (difficulty wise) and is kind of shying me away from this series. I want to know if this feature makes a huge impact on the difficulty or do you just need to be a little careful and cautious. Anyway, what game in the series should I start on. I can only get one of the Wii, DS games or the new one for 3DS.

Pokemon
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon for DS was the first Pokemon game I played and I did not like it at all. I know that is a spin-off and I am pretty sure there are better traditional and spin-off games in the series. What other spin-off and traditional games in the series do you recommend (and don't say any games like Pokepark, Hey You Pikachu or Pokemon Channel etc. I can't even get the last two since I am only taking recommendations for new and rarely new games (DS, 3DS, Wii, WiiU)

Dragon Quest
It looks like a fun game but I don't know much about it. Get me up to speed with the series and give me a recommendation of what game to play.

Final Fantasy
The same thing that I said about dragon quest is the same thing I want to say about this game series, Final Fantasy.

Okay, that is the end of the list. If you are able to answer any of these, please do.

I say you should get some of the Pokemon Rumble games. They're fun.

While I've yet to actually play it, I believe that Awakening has a mode in which units who lose all of their health are not permanently gone, so if I'm right that might be a good pick if you don't want to permanently lose your characters.

Fire Emblem: Awakening has a Casual mode that brings your characters back to life after battles should they die. For Pokemon, I recommend either HeartGold or SoulSilver.

Yeah, but if your a couple or a few or your units die and you still win the fight will it make a huge impact on the difficulty on the next fight or do you just need to be a little careful I don't really care about the feature of them permanently dying but I will have a problem if it makes a huge impact on the difficulty of the next battle if only a few of your units end up dying.

In the mode in which the characters do not permanently die, you will have access to those characters in subsequent battles. In the mode in which they permanently die, you will not be able to use them for the rest of the game. In any case, you should be fine as long as you don't rely on the same units for every battle. Should units die permanently and you choose to continue, the difficulty of subsequent battles depends on the extent to which you relied on the unit(s) who died.

Do you get new units during as you progress?

Anyways, which one do you think I should get.

(I am only accepting recommendations for the Wii, DS and 3DS versions. No downloadable or virtual console versions (if any)

Dragon Quest is a beautiful series, I would recommend what i believe is the newest: Dragon Quest IX: Sentinel of the Stars.

I'm sure you can find plenty of information on the series and game itself if you look it up.

Yes. You start the game with four characters, one of which is a crutch character. You get at least one more character per chapter (except for chapter 10) up to chapter 13. Not to mention all the side characters you get for using the game's support feature.

The only RPG I played are from Mario series or Pokémon.

For Mario I suggest Mario & Luigi: Bowser Inside Story or Super Paper Mario (though I haven't played it, it looks good).

For Pokémon, Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver or Pokémon Black 2/White 2 (did not play it, but looks better than Black/White).

Play Fire Emblem: Awkening.

It's an awesome game, the story doesn't follow any other games so you don't need previous tutorials, the game has lots of tutorials on it, and you can choose casual if you want so you don't lose units.

If you wanna get any Mario RPGs, I say you should get any game in the Mario + Luigi series(Superstar Saga, Partners in Time, Bowser's Inside Story, Dream Team when it comes out). Also, if you want any Paper Mario games and like the aspect of battling like in Final Fantasy or whatever, get the earlier Paper Marios. Sure, Super Paper Mario was great, but it didn't have the fighting style I love to play in RPG games. Also, it's a nightmare if you have arachnophobia.

I played the demo and I love it. I now want to get the real game. Is it very long though? I want to play an RPG that takes quite a long time to beat.

Your talking about Lissa right? When I was playing the demo, she almost died but I used a healing potion (or whatever it's called) on her.

this probably depends on the person playing the game, but when i finished the last chapter (as well as all the non-downloadable side chapters) i think i'd put about 40 hours into the game, so it should keep you going for a little while.
