New Mickey Mouse shorts on Disney Channel

That's right, Disney's FINALLY making new Mickey Mouse cartoons, and they're premiering them on the Disney Channel of all places! The guy directing these shorts, Paul Rudish, worked on Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Star Wars: The Clone Wars (presumable the 2D Genndy Tartakovsky version), and helped Lauren Faust co-write her My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic bible. So clearly, it seems that this guy's got talent, and it's being put to good use.

Just to get a good taste of what we're in for, here's one of the cartoons (in French):

(Unfortunately, it's come to my attention that this video can't be viewed by certain people in select countries. Sorry about that. :( )

Mark your calenders, for Jun 28!

cool.

The new shorts air this Friday. Disney's put one of them on their main site:

That was pretty funny. Although Goofy was rather out of character. Also, pretty funny how it was no shirt, no shoes, no service, yet no pants is allowed. xD

OMG, I was thinking the exact same thing! I felt like Goofy was acting a bit too mean there. Same thing with the no pants thing!

I think the fact that Mickey's naked, ON SCREEN, before he even tries to cover himself up, was enough for me to go "How did Disney let this slide?"

The shorts have been uploaded to YouTube on Disney's "Disney Shorts" channel:

Honestly, I have to say, these cartoons are a bit more gross then I'd expect from Mickey Mouse cartoons, what with the drool from the yeti, the massive belch, and, of all things, Goofy scratching his crotch!

...That said, I really loved these cartoons and I look forward to seeing more of them!

Incidentally, my mom saw them, and she didn't care for the more angular appearances of the characters. My dad also saw Yodelberg, though I don't know his thoughts on them.

ah HA

so that's what the whole brony movement is about - founding a new religion

A "bible" is basically a go-to reference guide for the writers and storyboard artists; it's filled with information about the characters, their personalities, and actions, so they know how they'd act and can write for them.

it was a joke

come to think of it, i don't think i've ever seen you joke around on here, so my bad

i'll just quietly walk away now

It's hard for me to tell if someone's joking on the Internet, especially when I'm not familiar with how they talk about stuff.

Edit: A little "behind-the-scenes" stuff, for anyone who's interested:

Couldn't help but notice, though, that they said they were worried about the new cartoons being too "contemporary", then going on to say Paul Rudish is one of the best "contemporary" cartoon-makers of our time. :|

So apparently, I searched on iTunes on the off chance that these shorts would be available there, and lo and behold, they were! $3.99 for a season pass where I live (USA). I'm so glad they are, that way I can show my support for this stuff; money is a good way of saying to companies "I like this, I want to see more!"

Also, "New York Weenie" is now on YouTube:

Mickey is kind of a thoughtless jerk here... Which is okay, because he was like that WAAAAAAAY in the early days of Disney.

Also, this a really zany cartoon, I don't blame anyone for being off-put by this. Personally, I like it, and I ESPECIALLY like that Disney's been a bit adventurous with their mascot. Which is for the best, honestly, better to be risky then irrelevant.

...Goofy dressed as a girl. Surprisingly NOT as off-putting as cranky Goofy from No Service.
