Armikrog

Smashgoom202

A claymation game for PC, Mac OSX, and Linux from the creator of Earthworm Jim... It's kickstarter is two-thirds towards it's goal... And there are only 4 days left.

It'd be nice to see this game actually get made.

Even though I still don't like Doug TenNapel's views on gay marriage. :(

^the spoilered part is exactly why I refuse to support this game. He's too much of a massive douchecanoe for me to look past and just play his games.

Ironically, I was just on another forum with a guy saying how retarded it was that people were boycotting Doug just because of his personal views.

Still, it sucks that genuinely awesome/fun games might be neglected because of that...

...BTW, just found out about this:

So maybe Nintendo might help? Or not. Either way, it's starting to feel increasingly unlikely that this project will succeed.

We're getting some love from Nintendo... Pencil Test Studios is now a licensed Wii U developer.

This is good news (for the people who want the game, anyway)! ...Especially since the Kickstarter looks like it's going to fail...

A guy isn't allowed to have opinions?
It's not just "opinions", his "opinions" are openly harmful and intolerant of other people.

there isn't any concrete reason or argument to being anti-gay that i've seen

I tend not to let people's opinions affect how I view their unrelated stuff.

I don't agree with the president of Chick Fil-A's views, but I still eat there.

I commend you for being able to do that. I'm much more conflicted, especially when it comes to the arts. Playing a game, watching a movie, or reading a book who's author/maker/developer has some kind of vendetta or views that can affect certain people in a bad way, or even just saying them...

Well, it kind of taints my experience, so-to-speak.

the fact that you're completely willing to justify someone's discriminatory beliefs under some bullshit guise of "FREEDOM OF SPEECH!" is baffling on its own, but not every person is willing to support a known bigot by giving them money for their artistic output.

By your logic, a gay person who feels deeply offended by TenNapel's thoughts of their demographic and doesn't want to support his work as a result is being a whingy little baby for DARING to speak with their wallet in an attempt to make a stand against his homophobia. It's a way to fight off marginalisation and discrimination within an industry that's supposed to be fun, accepting, and inclusive for everyone (good test for you: when was the last game you or someone you know played that exclusively featured a gay protagonist? yeah).

people have different ways of protesting and making a point for social justice and civil rights, and I think the only way for someone to say "oh just get over it, it's just an opinion" is if they've never had to experience that discrimination and marginalisation for themselves.

not to really rain on the parade, but im not really seeing much discussion of actual game. Now correct me if im wrong, but isnt the other discussion here being off topic?

(although i guess in a way it isnt since its about the creator, but im just asking a question here).

Well that just goes to show how the people behind a game can overshadow the game itself. If only it WERE that simple that we can just enjoy the game without having to worry what the people who made it think about gay marriage or whatever. Sadly, a lot of people can't look past that, and unlike what SOME people would think, that's not a bad thing. If they truly can't enjoy the game for what it is, I can't really blame them. I personally think this game looks awesome and want to support it, but I also feel awkward since I really don't like the thing's Doug TenNapel has said, and then idea of giving money to the guy...

Well, it's really hard to explain to those who just don't get it. :-\

Well, if I did have money to give him, I would. I loved Earthworm Jim, Gear, Catscratch, and his other stuff. I tend to look past the unrelated controversies. That's why I'm fine eating at Chick Fil-A; their nuggets are awesome, and I love waffle fries.

I do understand why some people wouldn't, though, and I removed that post I made.

Wow, the Kickstarter managed to raise quite a bit of money in the past few days:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1949537745/armikrog

They just need about $130,000 in the next 43 hours! I mean, as much as I don't like what Doug TenNapel has said in the past, I REALLY want this game to get made, it just looks so unique!

I'm against it.

Marriage is between a man and woman, the way GOD intended it to be.

As long as the difficulty isn't like Earthworm Jim then I'll like it. I liked Earthworm Jim's concept which was like Rayman and Mega Man together but the difficulty is just brutal.

That's what keeps people playing, though. It's better to be too tough than too easy.

True but like the original Super Mario Bros has the right balance of tough, challenging and fun. Earthworm Jim is pretty tough from the get go. I loved the asteroid races though. They where very fun.

I've always wanted to play Earthworm Jim, but I never got the chance to.

They met their goal! HOORAY! Yeah, that's right, I'm going to get the game. This is a passion project, and it looks cool to boot!

hey just figured I'd clarify for you, smashgoom; doesn't make you any less of a person for buying the game if you really want it, it's only if you shit on others for boycotting it, which you don't do so that's ok

Whoa. I'm surprised.

I haven't played any of Tennapel's games before. Maybe I could check this one out.
