Possible 3DS problem

So I was playing Super Mario 3D Land here and there and when I pressed the Home button it didn't bring me to the home menu. So everytime I want to stop playing it I have to force-turn off the 3DS instead of pressing the home button, closing whatever I was doing, and then turn it off. It also seems to happen on some other applications and games.
 
What exactly happens when you press the button?
 
Seems like a hardware issue. Did anything happen prior to this dilemma?(dropped 3DS or any other possible damage)

If not, something must be faulty in the system... Not exactly sure WHAT, however...


1. Power the system off.
2. Press the power button, then immediately press and hold down the L button, R button, A button, and Up on the +Control Pad. Keep holding down the buttons until the system update screen is displayed.
3. Tap OK on the system update screen.

You can try doing this to see if it'll reset anything and the home button will resume to working again...
