You upload images to an external image hosting site and you copy and paste the direct links to the fields required for using the images.

as far as I can tell(Which isn't very) when the link to the image is activated the server instead of spitting back the image spits back a random image from the list.

I don't actually know so I could be very wrong.
 
You simply upload the images (or gifs) to signavatar, as many as you want, and then an image link will come up if you select edit signatures/avatars and you copy and paste that between the /img thing
