Anyone know why Wario Land: Shake It! (or Shake Dimension) sold so poorly?

I find it odd that the game sold only 58 thou in the US and I'm not sure worldwide. But with the previous popularity of the Wario land games and the simultaneous popularity of Wario Ware games, it always stuck me as odd. And I wonder if the failure of the game to see five years ago is why we have never seen a new Wario land since?

Yeah, that was a great game! Wario needs more non-minigame games; although Warioware DIY was pretty good.
I think Warioware is no doubt the major part of Wario series now, however, the last Wario Land didn't do much with both Waluigi and Warioware companions, which could influences new plans for another Wario platformer. I personally hope to see a "Warioware Land".

Probably poor marketing or that Wario's giant face on the cover scares small children away.

Hey, Rayman Origins sold poorly in the first month and look at that amazing game.

Simple: demand.

Why would the average consumer want a Wario Land title when casual and party games are the Wii's bread and butter, and Mario handles your platforming fix just fine?

Remember, this is 2008, when motion control was still novel and the "retro" craze hadn't caught on yet. Shake It was a game well before its time, and it paid the price for it.

Really?

Well, Mario isn't the only platformer. Let's see, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Kirby's Epic Yarn, and maybe some other great 2D platformers I missed... did those sold poorly? And besides, Mario doesn't handle my platforming fix, especially boring New Super Mario Bros. But, again, you're referring to the average consumer.

That's a shame, because while you consider Shake It before its time, it still looks a lot better than "retro" New Super Mario Bros.

All released after 2009?

That just illustrates my point that non-Mario Wii platformers weren't in demand at the beginning of the generation.

That's true...

Did the sales pick up after that?

Sales of Shake It, you mean?

I don't have any data, but I remember it being easier to find new copies at GameStop post-NSMBW than pre-NSMBW.

EDIT: Indeed, according to the link below, sales were 22% BETTER in 2010 than at launch.

To be honest Wario Land: Shake It is one of the most underrated games i've played.

It may have less levels than NSMB but those levels are much longer and have way more depth too it. This is without a doubt one of the Wii's hidden gems.

VGChartz founder is a guy who got banned from Neogaf for making shit up, and everything about its methodology and the numbers it reports vs official reports (Most recent case is Pokemon X/Y - VGChartz reported 5.5 millions vs 4 millions according to Nintendo) point to it essentially making numbers out of thin air and then (sometimes) editing them when data from actually reliable trackers come in.

Or, let's put it this way: VGChartz reported that one game sold multiple thousand units despite it not being released until the end of the following month. Because they missed the memo about it being delayed.

I never even knew about this game at first because I wasn't and I'm still not interested in the Wario Land games, they just don't appeal to me.
