Once Upon a Time

I searched for this topic, and nothing similar came up... Weird, isn't this supposed to be a popular TV show? Well, regardless...

Basic premise: what if Disney's Enchanted wasn't played for laughs? More in-depth, basically, the evil queen from Snow White casts a powerful curse that results in all of fairy tale land or whatever it's called to be stuck in time, and for all the characters to forget who they truly are. The only one not affected by this is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, who was predicted by Rumpelstiltskin to save them all by her 28th birthday in an epic battle, so they had Geppetto build a wardrobe out of an enchanted tree that will protect whoever goes into it from hard and transport the occupant somewhere safe. As it turns out, Snow & Prince's baby is born on the same day the evil queen's curse sets upon them, and Prince manages to send the newborn child through just in time, seemingly at the cost of his life...

Meanwhile, this woman named Emma meets a 10-year-old boy named Henry on her birthday, who claims to be her son. She takes him back to his home in Storybrooke, where he says his adopted mother is "evil". Needless to say, she finds out something strange about the town, and grows an attachment to the boy, particularly after seeing just what kind of person his adopted mother, who's also the mayor of the town, truly is. Oh, and she has the ability to tell if someone's lying or not...

At least that's what I got out of it. I just saw the first episode with my sister, and I really liked it! Of course, I'm in the middle of watching Avatar: The Last Airbender, so I'm not sure just how much of my time I can dedicate to either show, but I'm really looking forward to seeing what the rest of the show's like! My sister was just a little more confused about the goings-on in the pilot episode, particularly Henry; she wondered how could he grow up if time stopped in the town. I hazard a guess that, because he was not truly born in this town, he wasn't affected or something. I also added that, since you're dealing with fairy tales, you're going to have to play loose with logic here.

There's also a new spin-off called "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland" which I'm also curious to see, but I'll wait until I've caught up with this series first, same with Avatar and The Legend of Korra. So who else has seen this?

my sister is obsessed with it

i've never bothered to watch much of it but it doesn't look too bad

Some of my friends watch it, but I never have. I just can't get into it.

Also, the problem I always have with stories about fairytale characters is where they draw the line on who is a fairytale character or not. I mean, you have Grimm fairytales, but Alice in Wonderland was a novel written in the 19th century, and the Wizard of Oz was only written about a century ago. And sometimes I feel they only put these characters in because "Hey, there was a Disney movie about it". Why don't they ever use fairytale characters who DIDN'T have Disney movies about them? It doesn't mean their story isn't as interesting.

Yeah, now that I think about it, doesn't Mulan turn up in this series? Isn't she supposed to be, you know, an ACTUAL historical figure, i.e. a REAL PERSON?

Apparently, she's officially a lesbian. I recently saw an article about that...

Disney logic at its finest. I actually have a copy of some Grimm fairytales, and there are a LOT of them that haven't been made into Disney movies.

Almost curious to see what Disney versions of those stories would be like...

Well, let's put it this way, I don't think Disney's going to run out of fairytales any time soon.

They just might run out of fairytales which don't have really old-fashioned morals.

Everyone in my family except me watches it.

I still follow along, just so I understand what everyone's talking about.
