FANTASY MATCH: Avatar Aang (End of Season 3) vs. Darth Sidious (Episode III)

GalacticPetey

Donkey Kong
Time for another fantasy match. This time, it's the Avatar vs the Dark Lord of the Sith. Keep in mind which era of their lives both these characters are in.

Bios:

Aang:

Darth Sidious:

Arena:
Where Aang fought Ozai

Special Rules:
Morals are off. Here, Aang has no problem with killing.
Avatar state is a last resort.
Only movies are considered canon for Sidious.

My thoughts:
Aang will probably end up coming out on top here. He is much more agile. Sidious may have his lightsaber, but that won't help much against blasts of fire. Force lightning will definitely be problem, but Aang is very nimble and could probably avoid it. He also knows how to redirect lightning, but I'm not sure if force lightning would work the same.

Post your thoughts below. You know the drill, support your decision and don't just say a character wins because you like them more.

hmm

is aang age 12, or is he adult aang?

as a child i think he'd manage to avoid getting hurt too much at first, but he'd eventually end up going into the avatar state and win

as an adult i think he'd do much better and the battle would be shorter; he probably wouldn't have to go into the avatar state

either way, he wins

If Aang isn't hampered by his morals, this is a pretty one-sided battle. Aang's airbending can do pretty much everything Sidious can do minus the lightning (and that he can just redirect). I mean, he could even do the bending-equivalent of a force choke by removing all the air from Sidious' lungs.

And even beside that, he still has three more elements to fall back on, even without the avatar state.

Around where he was when he fought Ozai.

Now that I'm thinking about it, this one sided. As someone who hasn't read any Star Wars books, would letting Sidious use his EU powers make this a fairer fight?

Yeah, it would make it stupidly unfair in his favor. In the Dark Empire series, Palpatine has achieved pseudo-immortality by transferring his consciousness into clones of himself every time he dies. He also has the ability to create this "Force Storm" power, which he used to destroy dozens of New Republic ships in a matter of minutes.

(note: i actually hate the Dark Empire series for making Palpatine this overpowered)

To be honest, I don't see why you're putting the Emperor in a death battle. That's not his forte. His strength comes in his clever manipulations and playing the puppetmaster, not from upfront fighting someone.

However...

We don't know how the Force would match up against the elemental powers. Assuming they're the same strength, Palpatine would likely be able to redirect the fire element rather easily, or even absorb it and launch it back as Yoda is able to do in Episode III. As for air choking, Jedi and Sith who are trained enough (and Palpatine is definitely trained enough) know a simple trick to protect themselves from it.

If I were Aang, I would try moving the air away from Palpatine and stopping him from breathing instead of trying to crush his throat.

Okay, let's say he can't use his clone bodies, but still keeps his other powers. Can Avatar State Aang win?

I'm not sure. The Avatar State appears to grant the user extreme durability, but Force Storms have some sort of teleportation ability, in addition to tremendous energy output (enough to turn an Eclipse-class Star Destroyer to dust in under a minute). Force Storm would also be too large to dodge.

However, the biggest downside of Force Storm would be that it's simply too huge to use in this battlefield. If Palpatine was able to back away far enough to use it without blasting himself, then it would be certain victory.

I doubt Aang would let Palpatine escape and get to safe distance. If he somehow did escape, it would be game over. However, Avatar State Aang was able to move massive stone pillars the size of mountains. I doubt Palpatine will be dodging that.

To my knowledge, a person's connection to the Force is very spiritual, isn't it? In that case, Aang could probably use energybending to strip Palpatine of his connection to the force. I know it was only used to get rid of bending, but the lion turtle said it was "bending another person's energy"

That's possible, but I think the Dark Siders connect to the force in a different way than the Light Side. The Dark Side is all about internal ambition and emotion, whereas the Light Side is about distancing from the self and connecting to the outer Force.

Because the Dark Side is focused inward, I'm not sure that energybending would be able to cut it off. But maybe it would be. Who knows.

Besides, even if it's possible, the Emperor is quite possibly the most accomplished Dark Side user in the galaxy (except maybe Darth Plagueis). Separating him from the Dark Side would be extremely difficult as he is so connected to it.

Aang probably wouldn't be able to use it anyway. Even if Aang traps his body in stone like he did to Ozai and Yakone, Palpatine could probably use the force to get out of it.
