USGamers recently published this neat little article about some of the the development teams involved with the mainline and RPG Mario games, and I figured I might as well share it and start a discussion about everyone's favourite Mario developers! Of course, you can mention studios beside those mentioned in the article, such as Hudson Soft or Next Level Games.

Personally, I love SPD 1's crazy sense of humor and bold asethetics, but EAD pre-restructuring is responsible for all of my favourite games in the franchise, save for TTYD. I didn't (and still don't) care much for Sunshine, though.

Hudson Soft, for making Mario Party violent

Nintendo EAD for making Baby Luigi in Mario Kart Double Dash

Namco, for putting Baby Luigi in their Mario games (Mario Kart Arcade GP and Mario Baseball)

Alpha Dream, for giving Baby Luigi a ----ing starring role for once

Next Level Games, for making soccer violent and giving facial expressions to characters
 
Nintendo EAD1, Intelligent Systems, and Nintendo EAD Tokyo.
 
Intelligent Systems (until Sticker Star happened, but that's not really their fault) and Alpha Dream
Camelot for Mario Power Tennis
Namco for Mario Super Sluggers
Hudson Soft for DOHIMISSED
 
Next Level Games: because they make the violent Mario soccer games, they give Luigi a colorful array of expressions in Dark Moon, and I can understand the language they speak there (Next Level Games is Canadian).

I also like Hudson for giving me a series dedicated to killing Wario and having Wario scream D'oh I missed in the first two games.
 
Next Level Games: The striker games are really fun and they do a great job of giving characters personality
Camelot: Mario Tennis and Mario Golf, that is all
Intelligent Systems: Paper Mario, that is all
Alpha Dream: Mario & Luigi series, that is all
Namco: The Mario baseball games
Hudson Soft: Mario Party
Nintendo EAD: All other Mario games

But really, all Mario games are great =D.
 
Nintendo EAD1 should be given another chance after Super Mario Sunshine. Let them do an HD remake or a sequal to Super Mario Sunshine.
 
Alpha Dream. Whereas Intelligent Systems has had hits and misses, the M&L series has been pretty consistently well-done, with strong writing, interesting characters and way more continuity nods than you get elsewhere in the franchise. Not to shabby for a one-subseries effort.

But you also gotta give props to EAD1 for creating the original and most enduring of the core platformers (imho).
 
Alpha Dream for sure. They have definitely made the M&L my favorite series out of the all the Mario series, and without them, Baby Mario wouldn't have been a main character in a game.
 
I really like Next Level Games. Their Mario games are always good.

AlphaDream too.
