Drones are making deliveries.

Little Drones in the near future, according to Amazon, are going to make deliveries to people's houses in the near future. Do you like or dislike the idea?

am i going to have to start wearing a helmet in order to protect myself against malfunctioning drones?

We made loads of jokes in tutor when we first heard this. Knowing my luck I'll get hit on the head by the thing I've ordered. My biggest worry is someone seeing the drone and you not being there so your stuff gets nicked.

I'd rather have automated cars, but I think it should be drones making pizza deliveries. Interacting with a stranger is something I find difficult.

uh no thanks, i think i'll drive myself

and i'd be scared of automated cars, because putting a glitchy AI behind a hunk of metal moving 60 mph is not a good sight

All you have to do is take the pizza, say thank you, and pay them.

I think it's an efficient idea, but if a drone was flying and all of a sudden it started raining or snowing, boom it short-circuits. (And that could probably happen even if they made waterproof covers or something) Also, drones aren't actually as intelligent sometimes, and they might dip too low and hit humans or cars or something.

I trust automated cars more than a lot of human drivers.

I know, but I'm the same person who dreads making phone calls and interacting with strangers.

That would actually be more practical than using them to ship items off Amazon, since pizzas only go short distances, the only problem is that the box would need to be in some sort of thing that keeps the food warm

Inside the machine. In fact, it can cook the pizza along the way and then, BAM! Freshly cooked pizza on arrival.

ok, human drivers are pretty unreliable

but you think a computer is more reliable than a human?

i have to ask the question: have you ever run into a computer problem before? or for that matter, driven before?

hey man, that's offensive. computer programs can be reliable too

ok but seriously i've both driven and run into computer problems and once the statistics show that computers are better drivers than humans i will be 100% in favor of banning humans from driving

The vast majority of car crashes come from human errors: hell, when Google tested driverless cars on the road, the only car crashes came from other humans running into it.

The main thing you should be worried about is liability.

Possible solution: put the loot inside the drone, and lock it. The customer would be given a randomized password on the receipt, and would have to punch it into the drone to get their stuff. Would-be burglars who don't know the password couldn't pilfer your stuff.

The only issue would be for large items that wouldn't fit in the drone's casing, but you could always just mail those.

all i know is that drone be better than ups

because they're just pissing me off

I do think a computer is generally more reliable, especially since they are more capable of avoiding traffic collisions. I'm also the type of person who'd get distracted even while playing Mario Kart, so I think a computer would be a better driver than me.
