I was too. I pressed R and then A, and it fired a bullet, but aiming was impossible.

Sonic the Hedgehog is easy to play on a DDR pad though.

Well, the dance mat uses the directional pad and the C-stick, but you need to use the control stick. Naturally, it never occurred to me to select the chararcter with a controller and then just switch out for a dance mat. >.>
