From this strip alone, we learn many interesting things about the Marioverse, such as...
- Mario uses a Tuff-As-Nails brand hammer.
- Donkey Kong isn't kidnapping Pauline in this particular comic, but presumably has in the past. Despite this, the girl still looks a lot like her, and she and Mario waste no time smooching upon her rescue.
- Mario can walk in midair, the secret being simply to "believe in yourself". Presumably, this is inspired by the advice Pac-Man gave Mario while he briefly attended Namco High.
- Mario is a Great American! TAKE THAT RUDNICKI.
- The first encounter between Mario and DK happened in Japan.
- Donkey Kong was a genetic experiment made to help with construction work (this is FRIGGIN' AWESOME)
- DK kidnaps damsels because they remind him of the mother he never knew.
- Mario feels sorry for DK, and only fights him because he's the only one who can.
- DK can be pacified if you scratch him behind the ears
- Once Mario's reached the top of the (ahem) "construction site", the idea of going back down seems to confuse him.
