This is a game I have just begun working on in RPG Maker VX Ace. The WIP is playable here:
(V1) http://www.mediafire.com/download/o8dwbzfk655blb6/Project1.exe
(V2) http://www.mediafire.com/download/dfry92x5d9d12h1/ML5demo.rar <---Latest version!

Changes made since the first WIP was released:
-Added intro scene with Peach's Castle
-Added a Save Block feature
-Added Jumping ability (testing phase)
-Added side-view battle system (left to right, like in M&L)

If you would like to help in any way (providing a sprite sheet, script, etc) I will add you to the credits list.

Story
Princess Peach, in an attempt to negotiate peace, has invited various villains to her castle, along with Mario and Luigi to keep them in line. However, after a minor incident with Wario, an evil Mario doppelganger known only as "Dark Mario" appears and sends everyone except Mario and Luigi to "wander the dimensions forever" because they have broken the unwritten law that Good and Evil can never make peace. Now the Bros. must travel the dimensions to find their friends...and their enemies... and defeat Dark Mario and his unseen "master."

Note: After the boss, the demo is over (Not Wario, the other *spoilers* boss)

Sounds cool, but I can't download it. Sorry. :-\

Yeah. Plus this isn't my computer, so...

Ah, I see. Well, if you ever get the chance. I'll be putting an update later for it, since I've done a bit of work on it since I posted that.

Okay, thanks. ^-^
Hey, can you PM a link to this so I don't forget?

Windows SmartScreen hates it but I ran it anyway :boshi:
EDIT: It goes into an infinite loop after defeating Wario?

Uuuuhhh.

Note: The cutscene after Wario loops; when Princess Peach gives her welcome speech a second time then just close the window; that is the end of the demo.

Thanks for the replies! I should have another demo ready later. Just note that it takes forever for me to compress the game to a .exe and then even longer to upload to MediaFire.

Actually, Fawful doesn't play a villainous role in this game. However,
the master is another RPG villain, not saying who just yet though.

still, i support your inclusion of fawful in this game, villain or not, it's good that you're following your dream. i tried to discourage this in the past, which i know now was wrong.

so, good luck in your game, don't give up, and i look forward to playing it in the near future :D

Another RPG villain? Must be...

Very possible, their sprites are in the files...

...which happens to contain an awful lot of unused RPG-maker default stuff. This small demo, while funny, that's not the problem, is 294 MB. Should work on that too.

Though the demo on itself is funny.

Hey you know what this game needs?

th
Mecha Mario baby!

I have another demo uploading; will edit this when it is finished.

EDIT: Here it is: https://www.mediafire.com/?dfry92x5d9d12h1

I removed what I could in this one, but I prefer to keep a lot of it because I may use it later on. But stuff like the default character portraits and such I removed. I had to unpack it and then re-pack it into a RAR this time, and it seems even larger even though I deleted stuff. Probably because this demo is longer.

Thanks! I'm not too fond of the humor so far, it seems too generic to me but awesome if you like it!

Yeah, as for the characters, I don't know who else I will add at later points. You will notice that one of the rooms (specifically the one right before the boss) is a bit bland. I will try to fix this in later demos and/or the final game.

By the way, in this demo, jumping uses the "A" key. There is a certain block containing Syrup that you can only access by jumping. The jump mechanic isn't working exactly as I wanted it to, so if you find a glitch let me know. To hit a block, press the spacebar while under it. The entire process is evented so the upward jump can only be used under blocks as of now. I do not know how to implement a First Strike system (jumping on an enemy to begin battle, etc) or an overworld hammer system. Hopefully I will find the correct script for these and for the Mario & Luigi-style jumping soon.

If you have to press A for a normal jump and Space to hit a block, couldn't you make Space the default jump for consistency?

I tried this, and then I couldn't talk to NPCs. Space is the default action button; making it also the jump button makes it impossible to activate events with it. Then I wouldn't be able to hit blocks either.

Unless anyone knows a workaround for this, of course. The normal jump isn't like the M&L jump, it is more of a "player hops from one tile to another" rather than "player jumps to get on a higher ledge" because this game maker doesn't seem to have a sense of height.

I believe there's Mario RPG Essentials or something to help with that.
Not sure about that, but...

Since I'm getting Mario Kart 8 first thing tomorrow morning, I may cease work on this for a period of time. In the meantime I would still appreciate your comments on the current demo and what I should work on. Thanks for your understanding.
