I'm pretty sure you're gonna get Square Enix characters since Square Enix is the one that usually develops these games. So White Mage, Black Mage, Ninja, Moogle, and Cactuar are probably going to make it in.

I enjoyed Mario Sports Mix because I found the sports to be fun. The only real criticism is the roster: the game's roster is weaker than Mario Hoops 3-on-3 and you're constructing a team of 3 characters, all who have unique traits and stats and a unique special ability. I really like the polish that is put into each individual character (Bowser Jr. using a paintbrush to attack, Toad using mushrooms to attack, etc), but come on, the only unlockable characters are Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest characters? That's a real issue. The game's called MARIO Sports Mix. Another issue is the unlocking system. Mario Sports Mix acts like the four sports are all separate sports when that's ridiculous and tedious to unlock each character for each sport separately. Other than those problems, I find Sports Mix to be an enjoyable game. If we get a next one, it should fix these problems.

On the side note, I'd also like to ask for Baby Mario and Baby Luigi as playable characters.
 
Ninja has been in both of those games. It'd make sense to return him.
 
I'd like to have new sports as well. Mario Sports Mix, also, would've been a great game if the roster hadn't let it down so much.

I agree. We want Mario characters, not Final Fantasy characters!

Yeah that's incredibly stupid. I hate having to unlock Blue Toad for every sport.

I only had one problem with the original's roster...

Why the bloody hell were Geno and Mallow not in it??

They should fix this in the sequel.
 
I'm fully convinced SE doesn't give a monkey's toss about Geno or Mallow.

Not that I blame them, the 2 are pretty bland.
