Over the years, there have been several remakes of several great video games. Would you prefer the original game or a remade version?

I myself prefer remakes, as they usually look/sound better, but originals are nice too.

Remakes are usually better due to newer graphics, and more possibilities, but originals are better for nostalgia.

i have to go with remakes, they're almost always better

It really depends on what the remake is like.

Sometimes they take the game and just remake it 1:1 but with updated graphics and maybe some mechanical tweaks.

However, there are also cases where the remake adds new content, and that can be risky. There is usually a large time gap between the original and the remake, and the possible danger here is that the creators have since gotten out of touch with their original work. The result may be extra content that feels disconnected and abruptly different from the rest of the game. Sometimes they pull it off right, but there are also times where the implementation is so messy it feels like a haphazard attempt to pad out gameplay time (which it usually is). At worst it feels like the extra content is not even remotely part of the same game.

If you compare making a game to building a mansion: After the construction has been finished for several years, you can try to nail an extra room to the second floor and it will increase your living space, but there's a definite chance it will make the building look like crap. And if you did an especially poor job, the thing will fall off and kill everyone who is currently in it.

Is this really a question? The circumstances are different for each remake. Some are good, some are godawful. You can't say "all remakes are good" or "all remakes are bad"

he's asking which you prefer

so you might dislike some remakes, but is your overall preference towards remakes or classics?

My faith in various game developers has diminished significantly in the past, so while I like good remakes, I don't feel comfortable saying I am in favor of remakes as a whole. It wouldn't be true.

However, if they finally get their asses in gear and remake Majora's Mask on the same level of quality as the Ocarina of Time remake, I will marry that game immediately.

Or maybe, in honor of the subject, it should be remade in the video game board.

For some games, I prefer remakes, while for others, I prefer the originals.

^Same. It's all about how it's executed.

Movies: Original
Vidya: Remakes

It depends. Some remakes are fantastic and might turn what was merely an OK-film or video game into a fantastic one. Or they might be absolutely disgusting.

Example of good remakes: The Fly 1986, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen

Examples of bad remakes: Super Mario All-Stars (I'm sorry, but it fucked with the physics and the music is inferior compared to the NES originals), like every American remake of a j-horror film.

i only play pokemon remakes so i cant really speak for remakes as a whole, but pokemon has been great with remakes while other games like halo have been disappointing. to me you have to do more than capture the nostalgic feel or repackage the game with better graphics to make a successful remake. i want additional content, delete scenes, or updated features they have added to the series in he intermittent time span to make an appearance. some can pull it off, some cant.

but if given the choice on a game i'd never played before, i'd play the remake just because old graphics hurt my eyes.

I prefer remakes

Super Mario Advance series >>> originals (the ability to save is a huge plus)
Super Mario 64 DS >>>> Super Mario 64
Pokemon SoulSilver >>> Pokemon Silver
Pokemon FireRed >>> Pokemon Red
