Which style do you prefer?

I would say this is something Melee did better. I really think that Melee's method created a good practice point to get good with various characters.

I actually like Brawl's approach to this better.

Melee. I liked how all of them were unique. Except Young Link's. That one pissed me off.

Clearing the same boring target smash stages on multiple levels of difficulty with every character was just dull and tedious.

Obviously unique because they showed off the individual traits of the characters and weren't boring as shit like the Brawl one.

Young Link's was weird, but once you *got* the trick to it, it was pretty neat imo.

Melee's, definitely.

The slant in these poll questions is obvious, but I still prefer Melee/Super Smash Bros.'s unique style. Brawl's style, not only is it bland, but also stupid. Unique Target Test stages were molded around the characters' abilities, while Brawl, faster and more mobile characters are favored, generally.

However, why not have a mixture where the uniqueness is there, but there are five levels?

Time constraints. I've only managed to break one target test speedrun Brawl challenge and it was the level 1 target test as Pikachu. It took me a lot of tries and devotion.

Time constraints, that's just an excuse. But Melee-based Target Tests are ideal.

And really, you had trouble with those target test speedruns? I find the Level 5 Target Run test to be by far the easiest. :O

Time constraints on the developers would be a more plausible excuse considering they don't know / don't care about how much time you have available.

Melee's style, but it would be nice if each stage had a Character theme like Luigi's Target stage would be in a Mansion with Boos, Olimar in some sort of Forest/Garden (I never played Pikmin). I just didn't like how all the Target Stages all used the same style. The Target Smash theme from Melee was so catchy.

I misread and thought it meant stages for battling, which is why I was confused.

I think Brawl didn't have enough time in development for unique target smash stages for each character due to more focus on the unique story mode and everything with that.
