Five Nights at Freddy's

Nabber

Artisanal Cheese Taster
I haven't seen anyone talking about this game, and I think we should fix that.
I don't think I can really do the game justice talking about it, so please look here:

Basically, it is the most terrifying game you will ever play.

I think people aren't talking about it here because so far I've only seen it on tumblr where people post either short gifs of it and pretend to be scared, or just straight up furry porn.

It doesn't look scary at all, it looks fucking goofy. The jump scares aren't even really jumpy or scary. The sheer quantity of furry porn of it quickly popping up everywhere is the most scary part of it.

...people are making furry porn of it?

that is legitimately more creepy than the game itself

It's like you're on tumblr all the time and simultaneously don't see anything on it.

Or maybe it's just the blogs I follow~

i haven't been on tumblr a lot this summer to be honest

but yeah my blogs have very little nsfw stuff on it so

I've seen a lot of commons on YouTube, from people complaining it's not scary, a crappy game, or that it's lame because all the popular YouTubers are playing it.

Really, I feel like it's a good use of limited resources. For one, even though the game appears to be 3D, it's running on a 2D engine, so all the 3D effects are pre-rendered. In addition, it does a good job and giving you a feeling of helplessness. Most horror games give you some means of self-defense (some give you so much they call it action horror, and some go over board so the horror aspect can be interchangeable with any given enemy type). Here, it's all about survival, and the only thing that can protect you is the doors, as well as the camera and lights that well tell you where the killers are. Because all three drain power, you have to reserve them for when you need them the most, necessitating that you keep a mindful eye on Freddy and his gang, while learning how they movie to avoid getting killed. The fact that the game has no music, and leaves you reliant on sound and what limited vision you can helps add to the frightening atmosphere. The game uses jump-scares, which most would call a cheap tactic in regards to making things scary, but the thing is, you don't know when or where one of the robotic mascots will show up (since some of them can apparently teleport). Since seeing one of them close to you means instant death and a Game Over, it's only natural to be fearful of them and be shocked when one of them pops up when you're least expecting it.

Really, even though I haven't played this game and only seen the Game Grumps (or rather, Arin/Egoraptor, Barry, and Suzy on Steam Train) and Markiplier play it, I applaud this game's efforts for doing good for the horror genre when it comes to video games. Sure it's a bit light on story, though there ARE some juicy nuggets of insight if you look deep enough, but it really succeeds in unnerving you in a way only a good horror game would, and NOT just because the mascots are creepy-looking in general.

It's definitely a lot better then Slender, THAT'S for sure.

ive made it to night five and now I cant stop screaming and dying

this is the best game Ive played this year, it has such a fascinating lore and atmosphere, and I hate horror related games/movies

also i want to go back to chuck e cheese hoping the robotic dinglies are still there who wants to come

The jumpscares are awesome! I love them because they get me like every time.

The scariest part about this game is the suspense. Like, you have no idea when it's going to happen. That's really what I find true scary to be is when you cannot predict when it'll happen.

My friend is a huge fan. And he endlessly tells me about the game.

saw a video for it, instantly knew that this game isn't for me. at all.

Just watch projared's video of him playing. It's really not scary. Just same old pewdiebait

I watched a few videos but these type of games scare the shit out of me. I know a lot of people say this isn't scary but what freaks out a person is subjective to begin with, that's why not everybody has a fear of heights.

That piece of shit that runs really fast, pops in and screams is the worst. Fuck that thing. Every single time that scream freaks me out. I only watch them because a few of the channels I'm subscribed to decided it'd be a good idea to play it, I guess I like seeing their reactions to it. Some are completely unfazed and others keep their calm until the asshole I mentioned before pops in.

I agree I absolutely fear and dislike jumpcares of any kind

Jumpscares are the lowest form of scaring in my opinion. Anything that relies on massive amounts of jumpscares isn't scaring right too. I mean they are effective, and heck they even get me all the time, but relying on only that is cheap.

I'm not a fan of jumpscares anyways.

I always find eerie atmospheres creepier. I guess that's why I still find Hyrule Castle before pulling the Master Sword in WW creepy.

I hate jumpscares usually, but this game just doesn't scare me.

fnaf doesn't really use jump scares, though. the fox is a jump scare, but that's the only one

also, apparently a sequel is being released in 2015

I wouldn't say lowest, but a more basic form of scaring. It's something that is easy to pull off while effectively doing it's job. I wouldn't call it cheap.

The thing though is that the jumpscares are really not the scariest part of this game. It's the fact that you know and you're anticipating it, and so you start freaking out not knowing when it will happen. It has an element of surprise that you can never predict. You may flicker a light, and next thing you know Bunny is standing right near the doorway, or you'll change the camera and look to see Ducky moving closer and closer, or Foxy slowly pushing his face from behind the curtains.

It really is the scariest part, as the jumpscare is the climax of the scary, but also as a relief knowing that it's over.

Yeah, the anticipation is probably the difficult part. Though in a way that's what makes the sound effect of the fox running down the hallway that much scarier because you're so used to not hearing anything from these dolls and not having to worry about dealing with them so quickly.

I don't really find the fox scary anyways. His running makes him look a bit too silly to be scared of him.

I dunno. Change the camera and suddenly seeing a figure running after you after just seeing no movement in an of the cameras makes it scarier than if you were used to seeing things running or moving a lot.
