So I'm lying down on my bed, cruising the internet, then I hear my pet birds suddenly wake up and act restless, and I feel a strange moving sensation, like what you would get when you're dizzy. It stopped after a few seconds.

Did anyone else living in central California experience this too, at approximately 3:20 AM?

EDIT: Yep, definitely an earthquake. Somewhat strong too, it seems.

Well what they are showing on CNN seems pretty bad. I've witnessed small earthquakes where I live but it's pretty rare in the Midwest.

okay two things

how do you live in central cali and yet you've never experienced an eathquake

also, what were you doing up at 3:20. get some sleep dude I'm worried for you

Ouch, 6.0 magnitude. You never had an earthquake before? The moving sensation kind of feels like the floor is sliding back and forth.

Which reminds me, we had a 5.1 something earthquake earlier this year, I believe in March.

On another note: wow, you have pet birds? What species are they?

why didn't you get under the table?
don't they train people for this sort of thing
You should stay in bed and cover your head if an earthquake hits while you sleep, unless you're next to a window.

http://www.seattle.gov/emergency/prepare/language/English/Drop%20Cover%20Hold%20brochure.pdf

"Beds are relatively safe places to be in an earthquake, especially if you don’t hang pictures on the wall at the head of your bed. Stay in bed, cover your head with the covers."

I've experienced my first strong earthquake as late as my mid-teens though

1 - honestly no idea
2 - I have insomnia, on weekends I don't usually fall asleep till 4

You probably should buy Melatonin

And don't look at a bright screen of any sort if you have insomnia. It just makes it worse, usually.

actually they make me drowsy and let me fall asleep faster

also my birds are parakeets
Hm, that's weird. Computer screens usually make me much more alert. But try some melatonin. Just as long as you're familiar with what keeps you awake and what doesn't.

Budgies? :3

that's what budgies are? I always thought it was something like a squirrel or some other rodent: that is such a weird name for a bird

okay, back on topic: did you or your sister feel it?

We didn't. We live in Southern California
