The older 3DS' simply won't be able to handle it, they shouldn't be held back from making bigger and better games because of an inferior model.

i'm more than likely done with Nintendo if they decide to completely ditch the old model the soon because of this new one

Um, the DSi had exclusive games. No one complained.

There won't only be New 3DS games. There'll be a few here and there, and they will still make regular 3DS games. Just you watch.

There will be a few games that take advantage of the upgraded CPU but for the most part I don't see many games needing it to for them to run fine.

There is probably a completely logical reason behind it I'm not seeing, but:

Couldn't they just have made the original on par with the better model from the beginning? Like what, did the technology that makes the new one superior not exist at the time the 3DS was released?

I'd answer if I knew, but I don't. Whatever reason they had, the original 3DS is less powerful than this New 3DS and that can't be changed now. The only way they could give people a more powerful 3DS at this point would be through a new 3DS model. Though it doesn't seem like it's a necessary upgrade/purchase at the moment unless you really like Xenoblade or don't own a 3DS already.

If I had to guess, it's part of the "lateral thinking with withered technology" philosophy that's driven the company's hardware development for years (which refers to using a cheaper but better understood technology in new ways, as paraphrased from Wikipedia). In any case, until there's evidence of an extensive library that requires the new features, I have little interest.
