My favorite Christmas movie is Bad Santa.

to be entirely honest i dont think i even have a favorite

infact i think the only christmas movies i did see were the Grinch movies and didnt much care for them.

It's about a man who attempts suicide because of a loan or something

Anyway, people hated it when it first came out and the director let it fall into the public domain.

A while later, several channels realized they could show this film without paying royalties.

Now they show it every single Christmas and everyone pretends to like it.

I think a similar thing is how A Christmas Story got as popular as it is.

Part of it is around the early 80s, a lot of classrooms started showing it on the holidays and assigning work based on it. I seen it at least three times during my public education and twice more in junior college. It's become a simple, easy to digest lesson plan movie that just about everyone has seen twice, so less work all around.
