Season 1:
Friendship is Magic Part 1: Good enough. It's a good introduction to the series but it goes under the syndrome of the early episodes that paints Twilight as the only intelligent pony, and everyone else as an idiot. The cliffhanger was nice.
Friendship is Magic Part 2:They shouldn't have waited until the second episode to show the other ponies' strengths. They do a pretty good job of it, though. It feels a bit formulaic like the early episodes, however. The animation is great as usual.
The Ticket Master: This episode is entertaining with the ways the other ponies try to butter Twilight up to take them to the Grand Galloping Gala. However, it felt a bit out-of-character for some ponies (Namely, Fluttershy). It was fun seeing Twilight get enraged at everyone's ulterior motives.
Applebuck Season: The main problem with the episode is that it takes away respect for Applejack instead of giving her more, portraying her as a stubborn idiot. However, the sleepiness humor is great, and it saves the episode.
Griffon The Brush-Off: Ah yes. The first BAD episode of the series. So why don't I like this episode? It was just mean-spirited and unlikable, with the debut of Gilda and her stereotypical popular-kid attitude. The moral is as subtle as a sledgehammer, and Rainbow Dash is just clueless.
Boast Busters:This is one of the most infamous Season 1 episodes, and I can see where people are going (although there are some worse, IMO). For one thing, it introduced those 2 idiots, who, in this episode, exist for absolutely no reason to fanboy Trixie (Speaking of Trixie, she was almost as bad as Gilda from the previous episode) and THEY were the villains because they awakened Ursa Minor, not Trixie. Also, almost the entire episode in a nutshell was just Spike begging Twilight to show she's better than Trixie and Twilight refusing. At least Twilight acted like herself and wasn't an utter idiot in this episode (1 episode left until that...)
Dragonshy: Finally, an episode that isn't crap. The main reasons this could be better is because Angel is a brat as usual (But my excuse for that is that there hasn't been a single episode where Angel HASN'T been a brat). Also, it's a somewhat dull, filler-driven episode. But I like that it saved Fluttershy from her problems of being unassertive WITHOUT being aggressive (face it, you know EXACTLY which episode I'm referring to), and the good moral.
Look Before You Sleep: OK, Griffon The Brush-Off and Boast Busters undoubtedly had issues, but this is the first episode that is flat-out CRAP. My main problem with this episode is how overly friendly and naive Twilight acts (as opposed to her usual bookish, antisocial, and moderate personality). That would be acceptable with Pinkie Pie, but of course, because this is before Lesson Zero, they had to include Twilight. Enough ranting about Twilight's character shift, this episode is dull, and I detached from it. Rarity and Applejack were unusually childish and argumentative, although they were they were the only mildly entertaining thing about the entire episode. Everything else is just garbage, even rivaling Putting Your Hoof Down.
