The big thing going around Reddit lately is how many of the subreddits are going private for some reason. The first one was apparently /r/IAmA, due to the fact that one of the reddit admins who founded the sub, who most call Victoria, was fired from the team, and the sub closed because they did not know what to do without her. I guess the other subs just kind of followed.

It was the "last straw" broken between mainstream sub moderators and the actual Reddit administration, as the latter was doing a very poor job at communicating, being transparent, and working with the former. Victoria was vital to ensuring quality AMAs and verification and setting up and all that, and the moderators did not know why she was booted off, or were given a replacement.

At the risk of sounding stupid, is this permanent?
Probably not. It's basically a hunger strike, except the food is the traffic. Still, a lot of the subs I normally frequent (r/pokemon, r/smashbros, r/roosterteeth, etc.) are completely detached from what's going on and are acting like things are normal, so there are still a fairly large chunk of people still going to the site.

Most of the major subreddits are back now, but apparently people are considering migrating to another site.
