Oddly my phone refuses to charge fast with any charger except the original one, and some it flickers between charging and dying, and others can't charge at all, but plugging it in again works. What's the problem?

Original chargers are made to discharge a certain number of watts, enough to work with the phone they come with. Cheap / off-brand chargers are not guaranteed to do this and it sounds like they're giving off less juice than your original one.
Best thing to do is to a always buy a certified charger that's made specifically for the device you're using. You can also look online for how much power it needs and get one that meets that, though that can be a bit of a hassle.
