The Zelda CDI Games

TBFB

BFB on the wiki, upset that I can't add an image.
I noticed there were no threads talking about this golden turd of a game series.
:waluigi:

Well I wouldn't think anyone wants to talk about them; they're terrible games, with the only really memorable thing being the cheesy cutscenes. They're at least so bad it's "good", unlike the games themselves.

Also, this should be in the Video Games board, no? Of course, don't just make a second topic: this one's bound to get moved eventually.

Fun fact: my theme was once King Harkinian.

I didn't play them

But they look fantastic.

Reminds me of this article: http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/zeldacdi/zeldacdi.htm

The gist of this article is that the first two Zelda CDi games are the way they are due to several limitations. Namely, the CDi console is very much unsuitable for the type of game Zelda is (which is why it's side-scrolling), the budget is quite limited (well, the cutscenes certainly looks like they were done in a budget) and the odd controller making it pretty unintuitive for the type of game Zelda is. It does shed some light on how the games could work, along with some of the positive aspects of the game, namely, the in-game graphics (not the cutscenes) and unique style of music for Zelda.

I get the impression that the third CDi game isn't referenced in this thread because it doesn't have the cutscenes that made the first two memorable, but it's mentioned in that article that it is pretty much of poor quality despite being top-down (and there's another article that goes more in-depth on this).

The most well-known (and infamous) aspect of the games - the cutscenes - are purposefully omitted from them because the game's merits are certainly not found in them.

Thanks for reading.
