These days, it seems like things aimed for kids are more inappropriate than things aimed for adults. A good example:

They sneak in more mature jokes so that the Parents have something to laugh at even if the Kids don't know what the joke is about but when they rewatch it years later as a teen or an adult themselves they find a new joke they didn't know was there as a kid.

When it works well it can make a movie you loved as a kid all the more enjoyable as an adult.

Though it does take some thought, because when it's not done well. It's putting inappropriate jokes in a movie it doesn't fit in for nearly no reason at all.

I think's why adults like Pixar movies as much as kids.

no

adults like pixar movies because most of them are well-written, well-directed, genuinely good movies

yeah, there are a couple of adult jokes in there, but no one loves finding nemo because they think it's the most hilarious movie ever

I think they speak to adults too, and they do make jokes that are structured in a way that adults understand but kids don't, such as irony, coincidences, and other humor tropes. Kids laugh at simpler things like facial expressions and shenanigans, but they can have some capacity to understand jokes as well.

I hate it when movies sneak in dirty jokes like that. It's a movie trying to be hip and make it worthwhile for adults, but ends up being really contrived and painful, so neither the kid or adults laugh (but I guess horny 12-year olds do).

Just like any jokes, adult jokes can be funny if handled with tact and care.

not in the actual show either, but the cast of vr troopers got hammered and recorded a gap tape when they heard the show was cancelled, and it was... great. I'd pay for an entire toku show dubbed like that
