what's the name of that instrument in most kirby songs?

there is this one instrument (not sure if actual instrument or just computer-generated) in like 50% of all kirby songs from the SNES till today... does anyone know what it is called?

for reference, the instrument I'm talking about plays from 0:17 to 0:28 in the video below.

for a more recent example, it plays in this video from 0:40 to 0:53.
