Can't remember name of a mario game

There was a mario game i really liked but i cant remember its name. I've been searching it for 5 years now.
So, i'll give you some info about it. It had the yellow mario, like super mario bros, but it wasnt this one.http://i.onionstatic.com/avclub/5556/66/16x9/960.jpg
I remember playing it in 2004. It had 9 chapters, with a boss at the end of each one. You were shown the progress as going into a castle (kind of).
The first boss was a big Goomba with wings. The second was a huge plant. You were fighting it on a bridge.
The 4th and 5th bosses were fighting a hog in those red elevators and fighting a fish on a bridge over water.
The 6th chapter was full of plants and the boss of the 7th chapter (not sure 'bout this though) was a mage.
In the main menu were 2 options. Start game (started again from the start) and a second one where it showed you the "castle map" and you choose chapter. You selected a menu option with Shift. I don't remember the controlls in game, but they were not the usual like speedup/fire on the control button.
It was a 2D game.

Can you help me find it? Any help apreciated.
 
That doesn't sound like any official Mario game I've heard of

Yeah sounds like a Mario fan-game to me.
 
Only fan games I know of are Psycho Waluigi, that Toad one, Luigi's revenge and Super Mafia Bros
 
Your description made it sound like the game was borrowing elements from Castlevania so I looked up a game I didn't know much about but combined elements of SMB1 and Castlevania and it seems to match your description.
