Becomes more obvious with Yoob.Yoshis are engineered from the DNA of lizards and frogs and raised specifically to sacrifice their lives to help Mario progress. Each Yoshi's body that falls into a pit is harvested and cloned into more eggs, which are placed in specific ? Blocks in areas where Mario is likely to need a second jump. Apparently there is a man in the Beanbean Kingdom who actively opposes this alleged "unjust treatment" of Yoshis and has opened a theater for them to enjoy civilized life. He claims Yoshis have been around for years and they are responsible for Mario even being alive today. He's frequently mocked for his asinine beliefs, considered a public traitor in the Mushroom Kingdom and would be executed on sight should he set foot there.

They are also frequently used in sporting events with specially designed obstacle courses for strategic use of the second jump. Many of these feature grinders or lava to greet the Yoshis as Mario leaps to his next trial. We call these events "100 Mario Challenge."
