Should future Mario games have customizeable music

In Super Mario Run, a new feature is to have Mario and friends listen to whatever they want, have Yoshi jump while some Viva la Vida plays

Should future Mario games have this? I think the reason it works with Mario Run because there is not a lot of new music in it, if at all, but it would be nice to have the option even though I probably won't use it much considering certain game like Yoshi's New Island notwithstandng, Mario usually has seller soundtrack

No. Custo music works in the context of a phone game, but it would be weird elsewhere.

I'd personally like it when I play games but it would probably absolutely kill YouTube playthroughs if you don't have the same music taste as the person playing.

For a smartphone game, custom music made sense because the phone has easy access to music files, and thus having this feature is comparatively easier to implement. Not going to delve into the issue of putting music in console games, because it would definitely be possible at the end of the day.

I imagine that allowing for custom music in a game series that's already have fun and great music would cause the experience to be different, and not necessarily for the best. With developer-composed music, the developers are able to tailor-make the music based on the area and the pacing of the current level/place. This allows for a shared experience between every player, as opposed to when everybody could choose their preferred song. As Fawfulthegreat64 has mentioned, if the taste of music differs between two people, it would ruin the experience. Sorry if this is not clear, but basically I am on the side where I appreciate the music the developers put out.

I am sure the issue of "more preferences can only be good for the player" would be brought up. Well, sometimes having more options is not optimal. A scene could lose its effect if a different style of music were to be used, which would ruin its effect especially if experienced the first time. There's also the issue that if there presents an option to choose your own music, the developer's music would not be appreciated to the fullest. Even indie games don't necessarily opt for custom music unless it's a music game.

Thank you for reading.

I completely embrace a custom music function for any sort of game. It would also be nice to have original music as an option for people like in Super Mario Run if they wanted to play in a vanilla way. Also, as Super Mario Run has demonstrated, it's an easy process to allow for it.

Not necessarily. Since Nintendo's consoles all support SD cards, adding music to the SD card for your game to play from is just as easy as adding music to the phone. Nintendo 3DS Sound application is a good example of that being used.

Considering that all custom music is up to the discretion of the player's preferences, I say that the choice of adding your own music would completely enhance the experience regardless of the kind of music. There's a complete diverse world of music out there that would fit any level theme in the Mario games. And for the quirky players like myself, some would even go out of their way to select music tracks that don't even fit the level theme at all. You're talking about someone who has put Christmas-themed music in Norfair in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Another reason I said that the "choice to select between original and your music in the game" is an option like selecting your own character, because it's ultimately up to user preference, and allowing more options isn't ever a bad thing. And tbh, idgaf about YouTube playthroughs and their choice of music. People who make videos can play whatever hell music they want to, and if their audience is a problem, they can consider that and can stick with vanilla music. Considering how *bleep*y the music industry is in YouTube, people who want to monetize videos or run without ads should play without music at all.

Absolutely disagree with this. I play Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii with custom music for the first time, and it was an amazing experience, and very very fun. I also played Super Smash Bros. for Wii U with music on for the first time, and I feel the custom music largely enhanced some of the environment the original music was going for. I thought music like symphonic metal were perfect fits for Final Destination or Castle Siege, or reggae music being used in Wuhu Island, or more techno-sounding, scifi music being used in Lylat Cruise. Different music can change the mood of the stage altogether. What looks like a fast-paced romp through outer space in Lylat Cruise due to fast-paced music can be a beautiful cruise through the cosmos with slower-paced spacey music. Again, there's also the opportunity that the game composers can have absolutely horrible compositions like New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Yoshi's New Island, and a dab of better music can enhance the experience: but in these cases, you don't even have a choice of changing them at all, whereas, if there was an option, you can either leave it in or not take it out.

I'm with Baba Loogie on this one. Though Mario games do have great music for the most part, sometimes you wanna experiment a little.

I'd like to see this in more Mario games, as it can make multiple run throughs of the game much more interesting.

I feel like it being an unlockable option for completing the game can work well, allowing the player to understand the feeling the developers were going for with the original music, and choosing the custom music accordingly (or not, it's up to the player).

An unlockable option works pretty well, but I think there are players that will appreciate a new experience with custom music diving into the game blind, and it may help blind-going Youtube players to have custom music.

I don't care if this is added or not; I'd be fine either way. If it is added, I might play around with it a little but I doubt I'd use it much.

I still don't like the idea, but they could always just add the feature and I could just not use it.
