After all the gajillion 2D mario games that came later and how they added so many things it didn't have, do you still like the first Super Mario? Or do you think it hasn't aged well?

I still like it, but I... don't really see any friends playing it any longer for example. Still, it's not my favorite Mario game so it's not like I play it to the or death or anything.

Never ever played it

So meh

Oops. With "meh" I meant that it isn't good, but isn't bad either.

Added a "never ever played it" option now.

Never really played it, but it's barren by today's standards. If I want to play a 2D Mario for the nostalgia, I'd go for New Super Mario Bros. I don't think I'm missing out on it by not playing it. It's a base game and it's highly influential, but later games build so much on it, and so IMO, if you're playing New Super Mario Bros., you're playing better Super Mario Bros..

by and large, yeah

It's hard to go back to vanilla SMB1 after SMB Crossover, though.

Oh, yeah, you also have fan games that build a lot on Super Mario Bros. I'm personally more interested in Super Mario Bros. X, though (man that game is harder than the Nintendo fare I'm used to).

great game when it came out
horrible by today's standards

Of course, it's a classic for a reason. Although I kinda prefer the updated visuals of the All Stars version and the added content of Deluxe over vanilla SMB, but I'd still gladly pop it in every now and again.

Honestly, it's still fun to play as its basic formula was so simple that it's held up much better than many NES-era games. It does have a few very outdated aspects, but I still enjoy playing it.

I’m not a fan of it, due to similar reasons as SMB2. While it’s a classic and iconic game, I don’t see any reason to play it other than that. SMB3 and SMW are far better games if you ask me.

I had the game on a bootleg console. I think it's pretty nice, but compared to other Mario games, it's too easy.

Yeah, especially when you GOT A MILLION YEARS OLD COMPUTER THAT KEEPS LAGGING EVERY TWO MICROSECONDS!

Where was I?

So like TG here, I too played SMB on a bootleg console I used to play on, but I won’t it was too easy. I sucked at it. Also TG discovered that the Fire Flower actually grants you the ability to use fireballs, I guess he was button-mashing.

Man the Nostalgia. I liked that game. So I’m gonna say I still like it-ish.

I replay it several times a year due to how short it is and when I got some spare time on the go.

I don't mind going back to it, but given that there are other games to play, the only way I would play this game again is the VS variation, which is said to be different from it. It's amusing that this is the only Mario game along with the Japanese SMB2 (based on the original) that prevent the player from moving back a screen, which makes the game more difficult in a sense.

Thank you for reading.

*clicks first option*

I still enjoy a lot playing this game. Although it is a bit "basic", it has a decent difficulty, and Nintendo was pretty creative while developing it. They have temporarily lost their creativity right now at 2018, though, they're just making a bunch of remakes of M&L games.

But Mario Tennis Aces.

Nah, it's just that all their creativity is being put into the Switch while the 3DS is getting a bunch of remakes to lengthen its lifespan.
