Can I keep multiple save files for the same game on one GameCube memory card?

I see that many GCN games (like Paper Mario 2 and Mario Kart Double Dash) lack file select screens. This usually means that the game only has one save file. I was wondering if it was possible to hold two save files for such games on one memory card. I know for a fact that it’s possible with games like Mario Sunshine and Mario Parties 4-7, but is it possible for those games to hold multiple saves on one memory card? Or do I need to get two memory cards?

You can only have multiple saves if the game supports it. So yes, you'll need a new memory card for some games like Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, etc.

Paper Mario has 4 save files iirc. Sonic Heroes had as many as you can fit on the card (which really all games should have had but here we are).
