Because Mario Galaxy establishes the universe reset thing.

So THIS is why continuity is non-existant, NOW I get it! Wow we get an explanation as to why nothing makes sense in this universe and why nothing is canon!

Also the first one is the better game fuck Galaxy 2
 
You seem to be disregarding the fact that those same things were also present in Galaxy 1. I think it was very obviously intended to be an alternate timeline.

Well, even if there's no official canon, speculating about it is fun nevertheless. If canon existed in Mario, how would the games fit together?

Also I have to disagree, although Galaxy 1 was still pretty great
