While I disagree with getting rid of Rom sites and taking music off Youtube, here is something I might side with.

The leakers are using viruses to get the info, someone's private data is at risk so someone can get info on a video game early.

So, yeah, expect to hear less of these

Oh, it's the Nintendo leaker who told the FBI he'd stop this stuff a few years ago, but then didn't, and then it was discovered he had ACTUAL CHILD PORNOGRAPHY on his computer.

Good riddance to that scumbag, I say.

Edit: Actually, to extend this post a bit, I've no real problem with Nintendo cracking down on leakers. I don't mind leaks in of themselves, but outright hacking servers and using viruses to get the info? Nah, screw that, especially when you know most of these leakers don't do this because they think that 'consumers have the right to know this stuff' (which isn't an argument to do this, mind), but just to get clout and gain social standing in the community.

I wondered if that specific hacker is only widely dishonoured only after evidence of his child pornography collection, as opposed to doing actual malicious hacking to obtain confidential information within the headquarters. It just felt that if the crime is only to get leaked information then it's very tempting to consider his actions a service to the fans since the nature of leaked information before it's ready made it all the more intriguing. Personally it felt silly to pry for information when it's clear that the company doesn't want that, especially when severe consequences happen when one were to transgress it.

After all, I can see how leaks can give the wrong impression, such as what happened with Mario + Rabbids. It was leaked back in 2016 (months before E3 2017, when said game was revealed). The very nature of Rabbids made it very infamous, since when it was only known that the Rabbid version of Mario characters, it gives people the wrong impression. Need I remind you that this was before we got a better look at how they were portrayed, meaning that it's a common assumption that Rabbid Peach is basically Peach but with a Rabbid touch, as opposed to being her own sassy character.

Thank you for reading.

fair enough, don't have strong opinions on this as i like neither side

Meh leaks in of themselves shouldn't require government intervention. The means of getting the leaks were definitely bad if it means like child pornography or doxxing, and a reasonable cause for it, but I'm also reminded of how Pokémon legal team wanted to tussle with leakers, sue them for damages for doing the equivalent of releasing a secret recipe (not quite; they're also stretching that definition), which is real petty and vindicative considering record sales of Sword and Shield.
