The point of this thread is that there is a poll for a limited time (probably around a week), in order to gather votes on which opinions are popular. I am not sure how long I will do this, but I hope that there are enough votes, or if I have enough topics to keep this going. The main difference between this and the Mario Wiki poll is that the options are more limited, in order to more accurately gauge which opinion is popular.

When voting, please be honest with what you pick, so as to NOT engineer a desired outcome (probably to uphold that a certain opinion is unpopular).

For the first poll, it will be about Mario and Luigi!

Thank you for reading.

Luigi is the more interesting character than Mario but the only reason I'm voting for him is that he's the adult version of Baby Luigi.

I like Mario more than Luigi but I like Mario + Luigi even more

I fail to see how Luigi is any more interesting as he's a one note character, as one-note as Mario with jarring inconsistencies between Paper Mario and pretty much every other game.

They're interesting as a twin pair however

Luigi's Mansion 3 alone was good enough. Mario appeared in 5 billion games yet none of them matches how Luigi was portrayed in that title alone. You could make the argument in hypotheticals that what if Mario had his own game developed by NGL but until that actually happens, I rest my case.

Luigi.

I just like Luigi more, I always feel like even though he seems overshadowed by Mario, he have a more fleshed out personnality in my opinion. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (best M&L game imo), and Luigi's Mansion 3 portrays Luigi very well.

I like both equally but Luigi is the one I pick more to play as. Got to be him, then.

I normally try to play as Luigi in main series games, though has to more to do with the fact that he controls differently allowing to weird stuff with jumps (e.g. his backflip un 64DS). I can't think of any games where they play the same off the top of my head, maybe 3?

If I were to choose based on personality then I'd probably say Mario, there's a charm to his ability to find joy in a lot of things, yet still be serious when he needs to.

Never really got the argument that Luigi is "more relatable" or whatever. Like, his personality is that he gets scared easily (unless you're playing Smash then his personality is just weird), that's not relatable, that's just a one dimensional character who gets scared easily. I'm not saying Mario isn't one dimensional either, there both as bad as each other in this regard, which is my point, Luigi is no better then Mario in terms of personality.

I'll be honest, I feel Luigi is somewhat unimportant. He wasn't in Odyssey and I didn't notice or really care until they added him in, and if they didn't add him I probably could've gone with them not adding him. I guess this adds to the idea that he's an underdog? I don't really feel he's this "underdog" when he's consistently the character who the second most playable, only not being playable when there are no other options. Plus, he always seems like the far more popular character with fans, that doesn't seem like an "underdog" to me.

I think Luigi reflects the introverted, insecure demographic of those that play video games compared to Mario's outgoing and confident air hence more people find him relatable. They project a component of their personality on to him even though they have personalities as thin as Goomba pancake

Similar to this, I felt that, because there aren't many game plots revolving around Luigi getting kidnapped (Mario Tennis Aces comes close) compared to how there are games that revolve around rescuing Mario (e.g.: Mario is Missing!, Luigi's Mansion series, Super Princess Peach), Luigi is not exactly as "important" as Mario. The most that happened are basically on a chapter basis, and sometimes Luigi played decoy.

Thank you for reading.

i have a slight preference for luigi but i love them both near equally honestly
anyway luigi always felt to me like the most loved character in the whole fandom so ots no surprise hes getting more votes here lmao

A game where he spends the vast majority of it either not doing anything, or isn't even himself?
well just like when i first played spm he really impressed me with his bravery at first and then i was really anxious about him when he got hypnotised. then mr l came out of nowhere and it was really cool and funny. then he got obliterated by dimentio and i was like WHAT?!? then he woke up and i'm like "oh poor luigi" and then he gets really brave and its so sad when dimentio kills him again.

and then he was the final boss

and then my mind exploded

I prefer Luigi because he has more of a personality than Mario.
I already said this, but they're both one dimensional characters that lack in terms of personality. You can like Luigi's "personality" more, but he does not have more personality then Mario.

Ah, yes, Luigi. The scaredy brave underdog with a sophistication in interior design and as a casino host, with an idealising supportive love for his older brother. He has been the voice of younger siblings everywhere.

But alas, my heart like Luigi, is also for his older brother. Mario, the vibrantly optimistic man of both sophistication and silliness, and not afraid to get down and dirty for helping others in his undying love of making sure that everyone has a good time, he's dressed for all occasions. A great leader and role model, especially for children.

He is, in a manner of speaking, an embodiment of fun and good times.

I'd vote for both of em equally.

But since you ask, I'll choose Mario. Sassy, outgoing man with a lot more games and history where he's done crazy shit than Luigi (what games have referee, toy company owner, Vietnam soldier, spaceship pilot Luigi?).

His voice is also a tiny itty little bit more charming, even if Luigi's yells are godly. It's like the voice of a caring uncle, or something. His demeanor helps too.

He's also more mature than he is, and always treats his foes and opponents happily or with respect.

I swear to god Mario can have a game where they flesh him out more like Luigi's too. We just... haven't seen it idk. Give the guy some more time ok?

why does everyone think mario lacks a personality.. sure its not shown off as well but he does have one for sure
Maybe Mario doesn't display vulnerabilities like Luigi can so he comes off as less relatable

I'd like to see Mario with vulnerabilities but without going against his character. Maybe Mario hides them better than Luigi, and we see this when he thinks no one is looking

But again Bowser and Wario don't show vulnerabilities and people say they have personalities

Both of them have giant egos that make them amusing. Bowser has his dialogue from Mario Party while Wario fudges up WarioWare instruction booklets. Still more amusing than whatever Mario has done.
