Unpopular opinions about video games in general.

I don't like traditional fighting games (Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat), it takes practice getting used to every character and you'll have to remember a million button combinations to pull off certain moves. With Smash Bros. the characters have simple button combinations for moves, making them far easier to figure out.

What are some of your unpopular opinions about video games in general?

In FF the games need an easy mode you can activate if you absolutly need it.

I really enjoy The Sims 4, with the most criticism I have for it is the practice of a ridiculous amount of DLC and removing content while selling DLC back, basically just EA being EA. The entire experience isn't worth that much amount of money. I guess what factors into my enjoyment of the game is that it's the first Sims game I've seriously played through, so I don't experience the lack of content from prior titles. Still, create-a-style and the smaller pets from Sims 3 sounded like pretty cool ideas, as I don't care about neither cats nor dogs.

The game made me outright laugh though, especially at how cruel I can get towards a Sim I made wear a Wario mask in my household while playing as a Waluigi Sim and other mean Sims. That Waluigi Sim is a vampire, so I made that Wario get up in the middle of the night only to start talking to himself and always target him to drink plasma out of.

Modern Sonic is better then Classic Sonic, in terms of the character, not gameplay. I'd like to see a new 2D Sonic platformer with Sonic Advance style sprites.

Modern Sonic dialogue is pretty great, but I like classic Sonic's design and games more.

I wish Eggman had been the protagonist in Sonic games all along, as it was originally intended, even if he's cooler as a bad guy. Maybe it's just because I dislike every character in them besides two tailed fox and manegg. I'd like Sonic more if he looked like an actual hedgehog.

I prefer physical games to digital ones and I hope physical never dies.

Don't get me wrong, I get the appeal of digital and I don't hate it (I own probably fifty digital games on my 3DS, for example and god knows how many games on Steam), but there's something about having a tangible disc or cartridge that makes me know that 'I actually own this game' as opposed to it just being an icon and data that I've downloaded onto my system.

Competitive play is a killjoy and just stressful, I feel this way regardless if I'm winning or losing.

Artstyle>Definition.
Just like with television, cartoon will always be better than realistic for gaming.

Your aunt who only plays candycrush is a gamer, by definition.

I have a strong distaste for the cube themed games and shadow/stick-people games, they come across as visually lazy to me.

I hate competitive PVP. Hell, I just hate playing with random anons in general. You will never see me playing online-centric games, which is why games like Splatoon and Overwatch fall out of my radar because their local play options are heavily gutted. I hate the excuse of "well it's supposed to be an online experience", it shunts out potential players who would otherwise love to experience the full game with their friends (Overwatch's local play options against CPUs are half-assed beyond belief) without the stress of being competitive to other people; and by the way, people who shunt that excuse out that some games are "meant to be online experiences" shouldn't get mad at multiplayer games lacking online play ever again, as those games are "meant to be a couch co-op experience".

I think there's too much violence in video games they should be toned down. Mortal Kombat and Tomb Raider: Gritty Reboot are prime examples of developers pushing way too far in the violence department. It doesn't help that there has to be people to *simulate* the violence and how exactly a spinal chord behaves when getting ripped off or how a liver flops off if the stomach is blown off. You have to see videos of people getting hanged, videos of cows getting slaughtered, picture of murder victims, and not just glance at them, but spend a lot of minutes studying their details and stuff.

Some games I excuse realistic violence like Detroit Become Human because it stresses the moral to care for others and oneself. But I agree about the games that are edgy for edgy sake.

i have no idea if thats unpopular but i generally just prefer more goofy stuff over more serious stuff? my friends are out here playing their danganronpers and personas and im just sittin there like. hehehe mawio
if the games tone is more on the serious scale i am honestly kinda put off.. realistic lookin games with realistic humans dont really interest me but i will gladly play mysims because i like baby game

also, if that counts? i honestly liked rayman 3 way more than rayman 2 (at least comparing first playthroughs as i havent gotten back ti r2 after beating it yet). the later levels in r2 just frustrated me a lot, the same kinda frustration i do get in all the other rayman games ive played but only when 100%ing it and not during the first casual playthrough
i will also admit. since rayman 3 has more globox in it and hes also way better in this game thats another reason why i liked it more knowing my bias

One of the criticisms for Spore I don't get is its cartoony aesthetic. I adore its cartoony aesthetic. I think the same applies for the Sims 4.

yea at first i was also one of these peeps that wanted the early spore with blood and realism so bad but just recently i realised just how much i adore how goofy it is! i wouldnta have it any other way

The violence in Mortal Kombat is supposed to be over the top on purpose and be funny. I won't lie when I say I find it uh funny and they also get creative with those fatalities, even if they can get a bit nasty at times.

I love ultra violence. Doom, Mortal Kombat, Mad World, Borderlands, Wolfenstein, etc etc.

The more gratuitous and ridiculous it is the more I enjoy it.

I can deal with gratuitous and blatantly over the top violence and gore in video games (and other media as well) but more realistic gore?

Nah that genuinely makes me squirm.

Yeah that might be true in the older games but in the newer games, as I linked above, people apparently have to look up really horrible videos to simulate how guts and gore play out realistically. I don't think it's worth the price to pay for our entertainment. You might ask, do they *have* to, and I say if you're going to be realistic in your character design and anatomy and stuff, then yes. Should we? No.

I think it's fine if your violence isn't realistic and has never aimed to be realistic, I just don't want artists having to look at reference images or videos of decapitations to try replicate this in our games. Hence, I think video games are too violent and should tone it down a notch.

I enjoy Left 4 Dead 2, Borderlands, Warhammer Vermintide, DOOM, and decapitating ragdolls in Garry's Mod but I also will feel a lot better knowing that the artists that simulate the violence didn't have to pay attention to an image of a brutal murder that has taken place.

This is especially concerning for me since I'm working as 3D modeler, not a character modeler, but the thought of me doing this, looking at images and videos of brutality for extensive periods of time to try to model something, that horrifies and disgusts me and fills me with dread.

  • i dislike the style of level design used in sm64 and that used in sunshine, or at least how it turned out in those games, although i did still like both those games
  • 3d land > sm64 >>>>>> sunshine
  • i dislike mario kart wii and have little interest in trying other mario karts
  • i have never significantly played smash and have only slight interest in trying it
  • the five mario rpgs i've played so far are my favoruite VGs in general, and i anticipate dream team, and maybe also partners in time and super mario rpg to be up there also
  • super paper mario is my favoruite mario rpg and with that, my favoruite game of all time
  • lego indiana jones 2 is one of my favourite games of all time, and i easily prefer it to lego indiana jones 1
  • at least for now, the vast majority of my favourite games are mario games (in my top 15 thread, the only ones which weren't were minecraft, LIJ2 and if counted DKCR)
  • despite being 17, the vast majority of games i play are rated less than 10
  • i don't just play video games for fun: there are many other major reasons such as story, especially true for mario rpgs
  • didn't really enjoy zelda 1 and 2
  • ocarina of time and majora's mask are alright, but nowhere near the masterpieces they're generally claimed to be
  • i love mario party 9 and much prefer it to mario party 6
  • nintendogs sucks

I disagree so damn much with those opinions you made me think certain... sacrifices must be made. For the greater good.
