What's wrong with Luma recently?

Luma made its very first spinoff main role as Rosalina's buddy back in MKWii, and then joined Smash bros as Rosalina's teammate. However, for unknown reason we don't see Luma too much often in recent new games.

One reason could be it takes extra time and budget to make Luma following in every single game (especially in Mario Party, it would be really tiring for programmers to locate Luma in every single mini-game.) However, even if Nintendo don't want to dedicate to Luma in main gameplay, adding Lumas to the event staff along with Toads and koopas can also be an option.

Another reason could be that Luma would bother gameplay like occupying the screen when you need to watch the courses carefully.

I think despite of Rosalina's incredible popularity today, her whole character is being Luma's guardian and it feels kinda.... not so corret for her to keep Luma at home in most games. I also think Luma would had been a very cute mascot addition to the main cast.

Do you think Nintendo could had treated Luma better?
 
I think Nintendo should bring Luma back. She's so adorable and lovable and not only that, but, like, she had so much personality. And she's a very good assistant.
 
I do not know if this supports your thesis on Luma's relative negligence, but Luma doesn't have an official plush. In fact, friendly species in the Mario series like Penguins are generally bereft of merchandise compared to the enemy species.

With that said, I say that Luma being a Smash fighter is already a huge honour for the character/species. Even if Luma didn't show up in other stuff, that alone already makes it a lot more popular compared to any other Mario character who never got this privilege like Toadette or Waluigi. Piranha Plant is similar, where because it is a Smash fighter, it is a much more popular character than the non-fighters. I felt that Incineroar is the most popular first partner Pokemon from Alola for this reason, even though Rowlet/Decidueye got more Pokemon merchandise.

In other words, I think there's nothing wrong with Luma. In fact, I think the stars are aligned very well for Luma because it is a Smash fighter (they're called "Rosalina & Luma", not "Rosalina").
