No more money puns! They don’t make any cents!
I had been greatly thinking about what the next SMB animated film that is soon to come out in a year and a half for a while now, and I looked up some other ideas for what other people would like to see in the upcoming sequel. But the consesus seems to be that everyone wants every character to appear in the next film.
I mean, what about trying to fix some of the issues with the previous movie? Isn't solving stuff that went wrong with the previous film another big point of anything getting sequel?
So my idea of the best way a potential sequel to the animated film would be to just make something that could appeal to everyone, and not just gamers or fans of the Mario series. So it's definitely gonna be much different from the previous film, where it won't be full of easter eggs or references, and the only characters who are gonna show up are the ones I think are neccessary to the plot and not because many fans want them in.
So here is a warning that if you are expecting my preposition to include all your favourite characters you want to be in the next film… prepare to be disappointed.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Also known as Super Mario Galaxy the Movie, The Super Mario Movie 2
The plot is still under construction.
Plot:
The film begins with a scene inspired by Rosalina's storybook from the game. We see younger Rosalina's life here and her family, her brother, and her pet frog. A spaceship crashed nearby and a luma comes out, and the rest of the storybook from the games play out, although shorter than normal while keeping the important stuff.
We then cut to the present with two young siblings, who are original characters to the animated sequel. The above was a tale that the older brother was telling his younger sister. the younger sister wonders if both of them would be seen as heroes one day.
Soon after all the time Rosalina was away, the location her original house had been is now a dumpster, which, due to a strange mutation in the dumpster, the pet frog mutates into the frog guy form SMB2. He wonders where his old owner had been and the mutation gave him extreme smarts, and he knows exactly how to get to his old owner.
So then we cut to the Mario bros., who are getting ready for an important mission in the sewers to find some green menace in the underground. But they need to complete it in time to attend the Star festival in the Mushroom kingdom. The two siblings from previously were also on this hunt for this green creature. The older brother is excited thinking it's a crocodile, but then get very worried when his toddler sister goes missing. He gets the impression she was eaten by the creature… until he finds both of them and turns out the green creature in the sewers is actually harmless. It's a baby Yoshi! But the characters don't know that yet and the Mario bros. find them, and they use a wall jump trick they learnt from the previous film to get all of them out of the sewers. When the kids ask what the reward for finding the baby Yoshi is, the duo head off into Star festival.
We then cut to the shrunken Bowser from the previous film. He continues singing, until he realizes his cage was opened. He gets lifted up by the frog dude, who reverts Bowser back to his normal size by electrocuting him on a pad installed in the wall. The frog questions if Bowser really wishes to have his own universe to himself, or maybe his own family. Bowser admits he does have a son as well as several friends who he all abandoned when he chose to have a life of conquering. The frog tells him if they teamed up, they can get not just a kingdom, but a whole galaxy to themselves, and all his friends and son can have their own planets and forgive him for being away from them for so long.
The Mario Bros. have been enjoying interacting with everyone in the Star festival, but suddenly, an explosion is heard, and everyone looks and discovers that Peach's castle transformed into a giant space fortress. Turns out the frog had secretly hidden himself in the castle for a very long time and recreated it into a rocket, and waited until everyone was distracted by the festival to notice that the castle would have achieved liftoff. Too bad everyone noticed anyway, but the frog, Bowser, and the castle all liftoff into space.
M&L all head home disappointed by the events, but find out the two siblings and the baby Yoshi all headed back to their home. Their mother allowed to take the three of them and made them a guest at their room. Hijinks ensure when the baby Yoshi tries eating everything in the brothers' room. After that scene, Luigi begins crying heavily because despite of all the work they put in previously, the castle and the Mushroom Kingdom ended up being taken away anyway.
Soon, Toad calls M&L and demands they immediately come to the Mushroom Kingdom for a meeting. The young siblings and the baby Yoshi unknowingly follow them.
At the meeting, Peach announces the plan for the mission to take back the castle. A mysterious spatial being sent them a small but quick spaceship that would send them into her planet where she will give them powers and task them to go to various biomes to train up to face the two bosses. It is then revealed that Toad was promoted to Captain Toad, complete with his theme music. The next problem arises when they all find out the spaceship needs 7 people in order for it to work. But they then notice the two siblings and the Yoshi, and decide that their reward for finding Yoshi would be to joining them on the space adventure.
They all arrive to the destination, which is Rosalina's hub world. She knows exactly what had happened to their kingdom and would do anything to help them on the quest to get it back. She also alerts them who Yoshi is, and that his species are quick to grow up and the one who is with them is very very close to hitting maturity.
The bulk of the rest of the film until the climax is the squadron of M, L, T, P, Y, and the two siblings going through various planets with all sorts of different environment and weather. They spend quite a while in each one with as much pacing as needed. Soon, the frog eventually gets the impression that there would be people trying to get their castle back, and immediately sends both Berdo and Kadek to get rid of them.
While the seven of the good guys are on a beach planet, those two lackeys find them, and a fight scene ensures on the beach. Thankfully, Yoshi grows up in time to save everyone. Yoshi then banishes Kamek by throwing many eggs at him, and he drops his wand. Berdo grabs the wand and uses it to separate all 7 main characters, and then teleport back to the frog and report what just happened. The older brother, who ran away as soon as the wand was picked up, remained on the beach planet. Everyone else was teleported somewhere else.
-Luigi gets transported to a large haunted manor filled with spooky stuff. Hint hint.
-Mario gets transported to a bizarre, random world of no logic or substance. Various power ups are used to even get on to of platforms.
-Captain Toad gets transported into a world that looks like a turning puzzle. He must solve various mysteries and progress through a platform similar to his games.
-Peach gets transported into a world filled with sweets. She meets a team of warrior gummy bears and their various pets made of candy whom she must train up them all to be stronger.
-The little sister gets transported into a planet of toys. A lot of them look like the toys she and her brother own, but they come to life in creepy ways.
-Yoshi gets translorted to a world that looks like Yoshi's island. He must get through while protecting spirits that resemble the other characters. He must also learn to find a way to get everyone to the abducted castle.
Soon, after everyone completes their segment, they all make it to the abducted castle which I am still thinking about how they would have made it. They meet the nihilistic Luma from the previous movie, but they constantly feed him star bits and turn him into a health boosting mushroom. They then meet Bowser but with the power ups they picked up from the times where they were alone, he gets defeated with ease. Unfortunatly when they come face to face with the frog, they are immediately bombarded with mini mushrooms and the frog swallows them all, referencing his level from Yoshi's island the game (level 3-4).
The previous animated film made it very clear how bad the mini mushroom was, but here they find out the good parts too, such as being able to run across various liquids and being able to run and perform moves quicker. But then Rosalina barges into the room and she knows full well what had happened. She tries defeating defeating the frog herself and the main characters inside him must try to survive.
Soon, they get to his brain, and they use his brain to uncover the truth: the frog dude was not actually the villian of the plot. The weird radiation that gave him sentience alerted him to go to space and fix a massive glitch in Rosalina's hub world's system. He only turned the castle into a spaceship and hired Bowser for help.
And then everyone heads back to the hub world that is slowly being torn apart by the glitch. They all enter the middle of what was causing all of this and into a glitch world. Anything that could be touched could cause massive danger, but there is an effective way of dealing with the glitch world: performing your own glitches. Following that, a large overlord shows up, who looks to be the master of all glitches that infected the hub world. It doesn't have a concrete form and seemed unbeatable… the then the frog dude stood up and chose to sacrifice himself to defeat the glitch lord on his own. Everyone bids him farewell and they all head back to the castle spaceship, and the hub world explodes into a black hole.
Soon, everyone finds out that they are all gonna be sucked into the hole… but then they see thousand of Lumas sacrificing themselves to patch up the hole, and soon, the galaxy gets reborn.
Soon, all characters soon awaken back at the Mushroom Kingdom, with the castle back where it was and the parts that turned it intk a spaceship removed. The hub world, thanks to the Lumas, has been restored as well. The world is saved once again, and everyone can carry on with the Star festival and move on with their lives.
Things I've seen other people bring I but I do NOT want to see in the next film:
-Peach getting kidnapped
No god please no! That happened enough times in the older games, and do you think it's really gonna happen with the way she was written in the previous film? I'm kinda surprised I saw at least 5 plot ideas mentioning such.
-The newborn Yoshi attacking the human world
I don't think that's gonna be a good idea to put in the next film at all. It seems too childish and reminds me too much of the beginning scene of Ice age: dawn of the dinosaurs. At least in my version, Yoshi only terrorizes the underground.
-Bowser Jr. appearing
I tried to think of many ways I could fit him into my plot an none of it worked. And even then, there is literally no reason to put him in the next film if he wasn't even hinted in the previous one. Bowser in the animated film didn't even act like he already had a son. Because of all that, Bowser Jr. might be the last specific character I'm expecting to see in the next film. But I did hint him and the Koopalings in my plot, so it's possible they'll all show up in the third film. All in all, I don't want the next film to just throw in characters and have the whole plot be drowning in characters. It should only introduce a set of neccesary ones required to progress the plot. That said…
-The Koopalings appearing
Now, if only three of them show up, I don't mind one bit. But introducing EIGHT characters at once seems like asking for trouble. That would mean trying to develop so many characters at once, which should be avoided in favour of trying to improve the plot or pacing. And no, a film drowning in characters do not make it a good thing, and a film franchise that is simply just video game references won't be a good thing at all. The previous animated film is fine with that because it's the first, but I hope the rest of the films are not like that.
Predicted reception:
I did try to cater my plot to some complaints over the previous film, as well as add in stuff I think could appeal to a wider range of people, such as the characters going to various lands of various themes. I haven't thought much outside of what I listed previously, but I hope for that the main characters would go on a variety of various different backgrounds. Hell, I'm not sure if I even want my idea to be a Galaxy movie anymore, and I'm sure the whole variety of places the characters go to deal can apply to other games as well.
That said, if my plot ended up being the official one… I don't think the fans are gonna like it. I'm even expecting people reading this to get upset at how my plot idea doesn't seem to feature their favourite characters or even all the major characters. But I made my point clear: I would like the next film to focus more writing wise as opposed to just throw in everyone's favourite characters and have the film drown in characters and game references. And again, do not make the next animated film with the same style as the previous film, I would just simply watch the previous animated film if I wanted that.
I mean, what about trying to fix some of the issues with the previous movie? Isn't solving stuff that went wrong with the previous film another big point of anything getting sequel?
