oh my god what did they do to Donkey? Pinocchio?!?!

This looks to be a drastic change in design from the other films, and I get that animation has improved since 2001…

…but I think somewhere the mark was missed in terms of Shrek-ness. It feels too "Pixar"-like in design.

Also Zendaya is here as Shrek's daughter.

What do you guys think of this?
 
To me it looks ok although it looks a bit like Pixar, but I think Shrek's daughter having a nosering seems out of place given it's the medieval times and people didn't really do that back then. It doesn't look that bad, but it's a bit off visually from what we're used to. Just a little bit though. And honestly, like, the visuals don't really matter if the story and everything is good. And I just hope that my and other people's childhoods aren't ruined by this being a bad reboot. Given that I grew up with Shrek I might still like it even if it's bad, but I don't want it being ruined for everyone else. At least Disney's not in charge or otherwise it might be as big a disaster as "Lightyear" was LOL. Also I originally thought this was going to be a complete reboot because online sources said it was, but it looks like it's not-it's a continuation.

Ok wait no it's a reboot I just watched this trailer and Shrek has only one daughter as opposed to the three kids he had in Shrek 3 and Shrek 4 LOL.

Given that the second film featured an American Idol parody as a bonus feature, I wouldn't find having a nose ring in the world the series establishes too out of place, honestly.
 
Idk I think the art style is an improvement over the old one. It's a slight change to the face but they look more expressive and colorful. Just take some time to get used to it.

All I'm hoping is the writing to be good, really. Shrek has had more good films than bad ones so I'm hopeful it would be good.

Well Disney at least doesn't own it and isn't going to mess it up like they did with Star Wars LOL. Since I grew up with Shrek out of sheer nostalgia I'll probably enjoy it even if it's objectively terrible but for the sake of the other fans I hope it's not. Also yeah I don't think it looks that weird or "off" either.
 
Well their recent movie outputs hasn't been bad. I've quite enjoyed The Bad Guys and many people loved The Last Wish. Though they did have their share of meh films like Kung Fu Panda 4 and Teenage Kraken though. I don't know what people thought of their other films recently though, I haven't watched a lot of movies lately.
 
@Xiahou Ba I LOVED The Bad Guys and can't wait for the next one. That was SO funny. I heard another Madagascar movie is coming and I'm looking forward to that. Kung Fu Panda 4 I enjoyed but objectively maybe not as good as Kung Fu Panda 1 2 3 and 5. 5 was the best one so far I think.

Ok looked up a DVD of Teenage Kraken on Ebay and-yeah-looks kind of meh. Disney and Pixar's "Luca" was much better.

Oh. Ok. Yeah I kind of disagree with Xiahou Ba. Kung Fu Panda 4 I think was really good but Kung Fu Panda 3 was the one that was "meh" to me. Yeah, unpopular opinion maybe, but it's mine. Zhen in Kung Fu Panda 4 I thought was really cool.

Yeah maybe i overreacted a little bit but it's definitely a bit odd seeing them look so different and I doubt it'll grow on me. I do respect your opinion though and I also agree with your point about Shrek's daughter's modern look being out of place in their world.
 
I remember watching the first and the second one and I was a kid and the third so this is no surprise to me although I'm just gonna say I'm too old for this and I may watch it if my family watches it
